In 2021 we celebrate the 20th annual Jim Schoemehl run to fight against ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and support a local family. This year we will have a hybrid style run where runners, trotters, and walkers of all ages are invited to participate either virtually or in person. We will follow various Covid-19 precautions to keep our participants and volunteers safe (check out our FAQ for more details!) during our 5k, and 10k runs. We hope to see you on May 1st!

Jim Schoemehl Run 2021 


Because of COVID rules and regulations, we have a few changes to this year’s Jim Schoemehl run for ALS. We hope you understand that the organizers of the run (Marketing Two Students) are doing their best to keep everyone safe while still raising money for Bo Powell & the ALS Association. Here are the major changes this year: 

  • What is required for COVID Screening?
    A pre-screening will be sent to your email the day before the run. Please complete the form. If you forget we will ask that you do it the morning of the event. There will also be temperature checks the morning of the event as a part of our COVID screening to ensure safety for our students and runners. 
  • Who is the run benefiting this year? This year we are happy to be supporting Bo Powell and his family. We are also working with the ALS Association of St. Louis. 
  • When is the run? 
    The in-person event is Saturday May 1st starting at Webster Groves High School. If you choose the virtual option you have from April 24th - May 7th to submit your time.
  • If I do the virtual event, how do I submit my time? 
    You submit your time for the virtual event on runsignup.
  • Will there be kids events this year? 
    No, for an increase in precautionary measures we have eliminated the kids events for this year.
  • Do I need to wear a face mask? 
    Yes, please arrive at the event with your face mask on. We will have extras if you need a disposable mask on run day. We also ask that you keep a safe social distance from other participants.
  • Why don’t I see a 1 mile fun run option? 
    We have eliminated the 1 mile fun run this year to simplify and reduce the number of kids on site for COVID precautions.
  • What if I do not feel comfortable doing an in-person event? 
    We understand! That is why we have a virtual Option - you can participate from anywhere in the world!
  • Will there be an awards ceremony? 
    No, due to social distancing guidelines there will not be an awards ceremony this year. Runners will be encouraged to depart earlier than a traditional race to decrease crowd formation. There will be medals for 1st place only. Those who win a medal will be contacted by the race coordinators to get their medal.
  • Does everyone get a participation medal? 
    No, the team of students has decided to eliminate participation medals in an effort to raise more money for the family and ALS association.
  • Will everyone start at 7:30 am? 
    No. When you registered you selected a time, this is your corral time to start the race. We are asking participants to arrive 10-15 minutes before their time and social distance upon arrival. It is required that you have your face mask on when you start the race and remain socially distant from those who are not in your immediate party/family.
  • Will there be water stations? 
    There will be NO water stations on the racecourse, please bring your own water bottle to carry with you for the race this year.
  • Will there be any hospitality when the race is over? 
    We will have a hospitality gift bag for each runner when they finish the race. This will be handed to participants and we ask that you eat/drink when you leave the race and/or at a safe distance from other participants
  • How will packet pickup be handled? 
    Location: Outside of Roberts Gym at Webster Groves High School 
    Times for PickUp
    Wednesday 4/28 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm 
    Friday 4/30 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm
    Saturday 5/1  day of the run (30 minutes before their corral time)
  • Can I still register the day of the event? 
    Yes, you can register the morning of the event, however we are limited in capacity for each start time. If you would like to secure your desired time slot we recommend that you pre-register.
  • Do I have to wear my mask while I am walking/running? 
    Once you are out on the course and a safe distance from other participants you can remove your mask. We do ask that you put it back on after the race around our race organizers and other participants.
  • How can I donate to the cause?

  • What will the start line look like? 
    The start line will be much more spread out than in the past. Runners will be released slowly so that they can be spread out at the start line and on the course.
  • How will I see the results from my race? 
    Results will be posted on runsignup 
  • What is the inclement weather policy for the race? 
    The safety of our run committee, participants, and volunteers is our highest priority. The race will be held rain or shine. If severe weather is present we will evaluate and post an update on our Facebook page the morning of the run. No refunds will be given in case of cancellation due to severe weather. 
  • Are strollers welcome? 
  • Will there be on-course aid stations? 
    No. There will be course marshalls and volunteers on the racecourse but no first aid or water stations on the course. If you need help on the course please ask a volunteer and they will contact a course marshall to get the proper help you need. 
  • Will you accept cash payments the morning of the run? 
    No, we are going cashless this year to eliminate touchpoints for our students. If you would like to register the day of the run you will need to register on RunSignUp using a card or pay with a check at the event.

Every year the Jim Schoemehl run raises money for an individual impacted by ALS. We would like to introduce you to Mr. Bo Powell. Bo's is a remarkably engaging and inspirational man for who we are so happy to be raising money. Bo is positive, encouraging, and a fighter in every sense of the word. We are proud to be benefiting Bo and his family and hope you will join us in the fight against ALS.
