Saint Louis, MO US 63123
In Spring 2012, Rogers Middle School sixth-grader Mitchell Herndon's journey began. In a span of just a few months, he went from a typical, healthy 12 year old boy to not being able to run, and then not being able to walk or get up from the floor on his own. Through St. Louis Children's Hospital, Mitchell received intense neuro rehabilitation and treatments, and on April 28, 2013, he was able to complete the Affton 5 Charity Run that was hosted on his behalf along with 180 others, running and walking in support of him. Since April, Mitchell and his family have continued their search for medical answers as his condition has worsened. They traveled to Pennslyvania in October,2013 to be evaluated by world-renowned experts. Upon his return home, he began a new round of treatment and rehabilitation.
The Affton 5 is a 5 mile Charity Run that is organized by a group of 42 middle school students and 4 teacher sponsors at Rogers Middle School as part of a service learning initiative within the school. This year's theme is GO CRAZY FOR MITCHELL! Participants are invited to wear "Crazy" shirts, hats, socks, etc. For each item of "craze," participants will be given an additional raffle ticket that will be included in the drawing at the end of the race. All money raised will be donated to the Herndon Family and Ranken Jordan. Runners will receive an Affton 5 headband this year and door prizes will be awarded immediately following the race. Come out and support a great cause!
PACKET PICK-UP will be on Thursday, April 24th from 5:30 - 6:30 in the Rogers Middle School Lobby. We will welcome any and all registrations at that time as well!!
