RunStrong x Gabby Strong Foundation $5 5K for The Cure Starts Now

RunStrong is teaming up with the Gabby Strong Foundation to raise money for The Cure Starts Now. The Cure Starts Now is working towards a cure for all cancers, starting with the worst and hardest to treat, childhood brain cancers. They work with the DIPG/DMG Collaborative to fund grants that drive major advances in childhood brain cancer. You can find more info at thecurestartsnow.org.

Per DIPG.org, DIPG, or diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, is a “type of brain tumor found in an area of the brainstem known as the pons. The name diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma describes how the tumor grows, where it is found, and what kinds of cells give rise to the tumor.”  DMG, or diffuse midline glioma, is a “type of brain tumor found originating from glial cells in the central nervous system, typically in the pons region of the brainstem, but it can also be found in the thalamus, spinal cord and cerebellum.”

We’re working with the Gabby Strong Foundation this month for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month! Gabby Strong is a local organization founded by David and Kimberly Buford in memory of their daughter, Gabrielle Ann Buford, who bravely battled DIPG. She lost her fight at age 13 but her legacy continues in the contributions her foundation has made toward cancer research and in the lives of so many children still fighting the disease. The Gabby Strong Foundation helps children and their families in their cancer battle by providing emotional, spiritual, and financial support. SO, grab $5 and your friends, WEAR GOLD, and come walk or run a no pressure 5K (3.1 miles)! ALL PROCEEDS will go straight to The Cure Starts Now!  If you don’t want to do the whole 5K, you can turn around and head back at any point. You can even just come for support and don’t have to walk a step!

As always, walk up registration will be available at the event! Walk up registration starts at 5:30 and we’ll start the run at 6!
