Description
RAD Run 5k is a walk/run fundraising event for the nonprofit organization Radically Against Dystrophy (RAD). This organization plans and hosts an annual summer camp in Jackson, MS for children ages 6-18 who have been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disease that damages and weakens a person’s muscles over time, often times very rapidly. I have been a volunteer and camp counselor with RAD for the past 6 years, and I can personally attest to the amazing opportunities that this camp has created for children all over the state. Activities that are typically “off limits” to them, such as swimming, dance lessons, fishing, and canoeing, are made possible for them. Each child has a counselor who serves as his or hers best friend, confidant and biggest fan. The week is filled with so much love and encouragement, and these kids are reminded that they do have the world at their fingertips, no matter what.
Camp is free for campers and their families, so fundraising dictates the number of children allowed at camp. Join me online or at Mississippi State University to make it possible for more children to experience the camp of a lifetime. Let’s run radically!
