March 4: 3rd/4th graders
Tournament to start at 9am and length depends on # of teams registered. Coach (probably a parent) will need to register their own team and then each parent to go in and sign the waiver via the link.
4-5 players per team (to allow for subs)
$150/team
Registration ends February 18
Schedule will be sent out to coaches by the Monday prior to the tournament date
Teams can wear matching uniforms or Cove will supply youth jerseys for the day.

BASKETBALL HANDBOOK
Philosophy of the Cove Basketball Program:
- Cove youth sports programs are designed to provide acompetition that emphasizes fun, safety, teamwork, fair play, and skill development.
Rule Administration
- Cove reserves the right at any time to modify, change or create any rule that is in the best interest of Cove and its participants.
Player Eligibility
- All players who participate in the basketball tournamentsponsored by Cove must be registered and have paid all fees.
- Players must play in their current grade level.
Cove Gym Policy
- No food or drinks are to be brought into the gym. If you have snacks for after the game, please wait until you are outside the gym to hand them out. Teams may have water bottles in the gym.
- There are no animals or pets of any kind allowed in the facility.
- Everyone must pick up after themselves. The staff and the coaches are not personal attendants for everyone. There is no lost and found so any items that are left behind will be thrown out.
- The youth basketball program is limited to the gymnasium only. Please no roaming through the facility.
- Please exit the gym through the exit door near the bleachers as to not disturb our members during their workouts.
- Space is limited for observers. Please limit belongingsbrought into the facility. Each player may have 2 observers present for their game.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of the team members, coaches, or spectators, will not be tolerated.
- Disregarding any of the above rules may result in the loss of practice and game facilities.
Uniform Requirements
- Jerseys will not be provided by Cove. Teams must wear matching uniforms (or same color shirts) for their games. We do have extra jerseys if absolutely necessary that a team can borrow for the game. These jerseys must be returned at the end of the competition.
- Only non-marking, non-cleat athletic shoes may be worn at practices and games.
- Jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings, earrings that hang off the ear lobe, or any other item deemed dangerous may not be worn during practices or games.
Game Ball/Goal Height
- Game and practice balls will be provided by Cove
- The youth size ball will be used for K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4thgrade teams
- K-2nd grade will play on an 8 ft. goal
- 3rd-4th will play on a 9 ft. goal
Start/End of the Game
- All teams are encouraged to be at their game site 10minutes before tip-off. Game time is forfeit time.
- After each game, both teams will congratulate one another, and immediately leave the court to allow the teams playing the next game, proper warm-up time.
Playing Periods
- There will be two 10 minute halves with a running clock.
- Half time will be limited to 2 minutes.
- Each team will have 1 one-minute timeout per half. Time outs are NOT carried over from the first half to the second half. The clock will remain running during the timeout to keep the game schedule on pace for the day.
- Every eligible player must get the opportunity to participate in each game.
Live/Dead Ball Rules
- The ball is in play when it hits an official, the side or bottom of the backboard, the net, players, or any part of the court inside the boundary lines.
- The ball is declared dead if it hits the back of the backboard, the backboard supports, any boundary lines, walls, ceiling, lights, or any obstructing objects that are in the field of play.
- If the ball travels along the top of the backboard then it will also be considered dead.
Defense/Pressing Rules
- K-2nd grades are only allowed to play MAN-TO-MAN defense.
- All other grade levels can play MAN-TO-MAN and Zone defenses.
- K-2nd grades are NOT allowed to press at any time during the game.
- All other grade levels pressing is allowed. If a team has a 15 point or more lead, pressing is no longer allowed.
Jump Balls and Alternating Possession
- Every game will begin with a jump ball.
- Alternating possession standards will be used for the remainder of the game.
- The team which does not gain possession on the jump ball will get the next change of possession and will alternate throughout the game and carry over from period to period.
Fouls
- Fouls will be called in moderation and if deliberate and causing a delay in game. There will be no free throws.
Traveling
- Traveling will not be called unless excessive. Many players at this level have never participated in basketball in a competitive manner. Coaches will do their best to teach the importance of dribbling.
Stealing
- There will be no stealing the ball off the dribble. Stealing of a pass is allowed.
Inbounding Rules
- After a Made basket, any of the players on the team may take the ball out of bounds. After the inbound passer steps out of bounds, he has five seconds to pass the ball inbounds to a teammate or it is a violation. The inbound passer can freely roam the distance of the baseline.
Schedule/Scores
- League schedule will be given to the coaches to disperse to their players. It is the responsibility of the coaches to contact each player for practice and game times.
- Cove will not be keeping win/loss records or post scores online.
- Game score will be kept by a volunteer spectator.
