Description

It’s back! A Bozeman running tradition, The Sweet Pea Run, is excited for another great race this year on Saturday, August 5th. This great community event is a liaison event of the Sweet Pea Festival and one of the oldest running races in Bozeman offering something for competitive runners to families looking for a fun event. With a start and finish for both a 5k and 10k race on Main Street, this is a great way to get out and see Bozeman. Whether its running past the Sweet Pea Festival grounds, by MSU or touring the historic downtown, you will get a great slice of Bozeman while you run. The Sweet Pea Run is also known for their great prizes. Top finishers from each race could receive cash prizes, running shoes, and other great accessories. With divisions in Masters, Open, Clydesdale and Athena as well as age group prizes there are many ways to head home with something from the race. All of this is brought to you by the Big Sky Wind Drinkers (BSWD); Bozeman’s local running club. With a strong tradition of giving back to the community, this organization supports programs like Cancer Community Support, Road Runners Club of America, operates a year round community race series, and is a major sponsor for THRIVE'S  Girls On The Run program.  The money raised from this race helps support the BSWD to be great stewards of running and other related causes in Bozeman. We are also pleased to partner this year with ROC Wheels and their 2 Good Legs Campaign helping kids in need of custom wheelchairs in Uganda.  Remember, please leave the dogs at home and if you are bringing a stroller, please line up toward the back.  We also have plenty of opportunities for you & your family to volunteer for walk-in registration and packet pick-up and also along the course on race day.  To sign up to volunteer:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409094cacad28a20-sweet1

Additional options to race entry fees

In effort to keep race entry fees low,  t-shirts and other extras are optional and offered at an additional low cost fee.

This year, in addition to t-shirts, we are also selling trucker hats and Sweet Pea Festival wristbands!  We are also selling a organic t-shirt option.

***  Also new this year, runners will have the opportunity to purchase an additional registration fee to support the ROC Wheels 2 Good Legs Campaign.

WHAT: Your two good legs can run for a purpose. This year more than 200 children in the Kamuli District of Uganda can’t go anywhere because they are in need of wheel chairs. Bozeman-based non-profit Roc Wheels is raising $100,000 to meet this need with chairs customized for the needs of each child.

WHY: How often have you hit the half-way mark of a race only to lose focus or wonder, “Why am doing this?” Today you can run your race AND make a way for a child to run theirs. When your lungs are burning or you’ve lost your stride, or the whole darn race has been charted up hill, you’ll look down at your bib and know your steps today make a lasting impact on the world, even if you don’t come home with a win. And, hey, if you do, Congratulations! and more importantly Thank You for using your TWO GOOD LEGS to run for a greater good.

HOW: Purchase a race registration for a child from the Roc Wheels profiles and run their race while you run your own. You’ll get a sticker for your race bib that lets everyone know who you are running for along with a laminated photo of your child to take with you. Trophy or not, put the picture of your child on the mantle and you’ll have something worth talking about.
