Description

The 12 Days of Christmas Virtual 5K returns for a third consecutive year and there will also be an in-person option for local runners. Give yourself an early present and celebrate the holidays by participating in the Governor's Cup 12 Days of Christmas Virtual 5K. Beginning on Dec. 12 and going through Dec. 23, runners will have 12 days to complete their own virtual 5K and post their time. The virtual event is only $25 and limited to the first 500 people who sign up.

What do runners get for registering? Thanks for asking. All registered runners will receive a commemorative race buff/neck gaiter, a finisher medal, and race bib. Your race swag will be available by early December, meaning you can complete your 5K in your stylish new buff. Additionally, all registration dollars go to the Caring Foundation of Montana, which helps provide access to health care services to Montanans.

Why should you do a virtual run in December? It's a great way to cap your fitness goals for the year and give yourself one final push before all those holiday cookies. Plus it's a virtual run because in December odds are it will be rather cold here in Helena. Like, really cold. With snow and wind. Runners can avoid the elements and run on a treadmill. Or not. It's up to you! For those who want to brave the elements, we once again will host an in-person option at Centennial Park on Dec. 17. Those details are below.

So chart your own 5K course and take part in the Governor's Cup 12 Days of Christmas Virtual 5K.

  • All runners will receive a commemorative buff/neck gaiter, finisher medal, and commemorative race bib.

An In-Person 5K Option? Tell Me More!

A virtual run in December certainly makes a lot of sense, but we know there are runners out there who want nothing more than to be outside at an actual race. So, we figured why not give 12 Days of Christmas Virtual 5K registrants both options. For those wanting to run with a group, there will be an in-person option on Dec. 17 at Centennial Park in Helena. It will be a fun, low-key race featuring holiday music and hot chocolate. Ugly sweaters or Santa suits encouraged. The virtual run will still take place from Dec. 12-23. Simply sign up for the virtual race but make plans to show up to Centennial Park on Dec. 17.

Here are the in-person race details:

  • Sign up for the virtual race and then make plans to be at Centennial Park on Dec. 17
  • In-person race will start at 1 p.m., with check-in beginning at 12 p.m.
  • The course will consist of three laps of the paved loop at Centennial Park.
  • Chip timing won't be available, but there will be a clock at the finish line.
  • Hot chocolate will be provided, as well as water at the finish line.
  • Holiday music will be playing and runners are encouraged to dress up in Santa suits, ugly sweaters, etc.
  • Wreaths will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers.
