Description

This event is both virtual and in Person
Join us for the annual Memorial 5k/1 Mile Walk in honor of Kaysera Stops Pretty Places, a beloved soul whose light was extinguished too soon. Organized by her family and the Pretty Eagle Woman Resource Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness about Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP), this event aims to shed light on a pressing issue and offer support to families facing unimaginable challenges.

Kaysera's Crow Indian name, Pretty Eagle Woman, embodies the strength and resilience she carried with her. This event is not only a commemoration of her life but also a call to action. The 5k run/walk holds a profound purpose: to raise awareness for MMIP not only in Big Horn County, MT but across the nation.

On August 24, 2019, just 10 days after her eighteenth birthday, Kaysera Stops Pretty Places disappeared from a suburban neighborhood in Hardin, Montana, a stone's throw away from the Crow Reservation. Tragically, her lifeless body was found five days later. Despite compelling evidence pointing towards the perpetrator, justice remains elusive, and her killer continues to evade consequences. Astonishingly, no charges have been brought, and no proper investigation has taken place.

The Big Horn County Sheriff's Department, the agency entrusted with resolving her murder, failed to initiate substantial efforts for over a month. This event stands not only as a remembrance of Kaysera but also as a reminder of the systemic issues that perpetuate such injustices.

Kaysera's spirit was one of empathy, kindness, and courage. A champion of the underprivileged, she consistently lent her support to those in need. Her passion for dance, song, and sports, including basketball, cross country, and even football, showcased her remarkable athleticism and tenacity.

Join  us as we lace up our sneakers, walk, and run to honor the memory of Kaysera Stops Pretty Places and all those who've been affected by the MMIP crisis. Let's come together to create awareness, demand justice, and support the families who are enduring the unimaginable. Your participation in this event will make a difference, helping us take one step closer to a world where no one is forgotten or left without a voice.
