Description

Back by popular demand, and just because it's fun, is the Run-Bike-Run-Bike relay that you've come to know and love. The Dirty Duel! This event will help raise money for MTB Missoula and Montana Trail Crew trail making/maintenance projects and is the ultimate Montana bragging rights.

Now on a Saturday, we offer a variety of races to choose from (or enter multiple events!), including an extended afternoon course. Each race will consist of a run leg, followed by a bike leg, followed by a run leg, followed by a bike leg. Yes, that's a lot of transitions! Yes, we have no idea what shoes you should wear if you're competing solo. Yes, we know you should wear a costume.

We will have a variety of prizes for overall finishers and teams in each race, made possible by our sponsors. BONUS PRIZE: if you complete a morning session race (short course) and the afternoon long course you will receive the coveted Dirty Dirty award. Trust us. It's the best trophy you'll ever earn.

You can sign up for the Dirty Duel as a solo, duo, or quad. There are categories for men, women, and mixed teams, and we will also have a juniors race. Mix-and-match and sign up for 1, 2, 3 or all 4 (ouch..)!

Oh, and in case you couldn't tell by the name, all of this takes place on dirt. Mountain bikes and trail shoes recommended!

Schedule:

Race day is August 18th!
-9am Duo Males and Duo Females
-10am Quad Teams and Solos
-11am Mixed Duos
-12pm Juniors
-1pm Long Course

Prices:
-$50 per team (no matter how many people are on it) until July 15th
-$60 per team from July 15th-August 18th (race day)
*$40 per team for the long course if you register for a short course race as well.
-$15 per Junior (same price if s/he is solo or on a team)

Course:
-Short Course- The short course consists of a 3/4 mile loop that takes runners straight up (and we mean straight up) a ski run for 315 feet, before following a winding single track trail down to the exchange zone. The bikers will then ride up a fire road (Cripple Creek) before descending a fairly steep single track (B-line), ride up and over the fly-over bridge and down “Local Glory.” Each bike leg will do two laps of this course before exchanging back with the runners.

-Long Course- TBA (but expect it to involve running and biking, and cover at least 90 minutes total)

What you get:

-A fun event unlike any other event you'll do this summer
-The official Dirty Duel hand towel to clean up post-race
-Chip timing

Donations are accepted for the following (to be split between MTB Missoula and MT Trail Crew):

Big Sky Beer
Missoula Parks and Rec - ready to watch the kiddos! ($5 per kid donation)

- After you cross the finish line, there will be food available from a local food truck

So grab a friend or three, and start coming up with your team name! And costumes!

All proceeds from the race, beer garden, and childcare will be split 50/50 between MTB Missoula and Montana Trail Crew to assist with future trail building efforts. You will also be able to find out how to get involved with future trail projects if you want to help maintain the trails you use.

Please contact Forrest or Bri (race directors) with questions or to volunteer at the event.

Course Descriptions....

We will continue to update this page as the race draws nearer, but for now, here is a video of the short course that will be used for all morning session races (except Juniors). The exchange zone is slightly earlier than shown in the run and will be the same as it was in 2017.
