Description

Arrowleaf Mountain Bike Biathlon 2023

Seeley Lake Nordic announces the first annual Arrowleaf Mountain Bike Biathlon.  Building on the popular Seeley Lake Biathlon, we are hosting a fall bike biathlon.  Earlier this summer, Seeley Lake Nordic made some improvements to the Biathlon Range, funded in part with a Missoula County Micro Grant, and we are eager to test out the improved range and trails at Seeley Creek.

The Arrowleaf Mountain Bike Biathlon is a race where competitors ride three laps on dirt trails and enter the range twice to shoot five rounds at regulation biathlon targets.  This is a participation-based event with rifles, ammo and targets provided by Seeley Lake Nordic and the Wilderness Sportsman's Club of Seeley Lake both are 501(c)(4) nonprofit organizations.  Competitors must provide their own mountain bike; no e-bikes or motorbikes.  No prior biathlon experience required.

Racers can register for 15K Adult; or 9K Adult (Novice) or Youth; or 5K Youth (Novice) or Adaptive Race.

  • Experienced: Individuals who have participated in 2 or more biathlon (nordic, running or biking) events or clinics
  • Novice: Individuals who have little or no biathlon experience.
  • Adaptive: Individuals who are using adaptive mountain bikes or need extra assistance to participate in race

On-line registration only for the Arrowleaf Mountain Bike Biathlon; there will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.

All participants must attend a pre-race Mandatory Safety Orientation.  The first Safety Orientation, for the 15K and 9K races, will begin at 9:15am on Oct 14, 2023.  Safety Orientation for the 5K races will begin at 12:30 pm.  After the Mandatory Safety Orientation, a live fire practice and opportunity to zero rifles will commence prior to the start of the race. Each race will have interval starts with electronic timing.  A one minute time penalty will be assessed for each missed shot in place of penalty laps.  All rifles will remain at the range.  No biking with rifles will be permitted.
