Why We Run: Supporting Parkinson
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Parkinson’s disease affects more than 10 million people worldwide, including nearly 1 million in the United States. It is a progressive neurological disorder that impacts movement, coordination, and daily life—touching not only those diagnosed, but also their families, friends, and communities.
Despite its challenges, there is real reason for hope. Advances in research, treatment, and understanding of Parkinson’s are accelerating faster than ever before. From improved medications that help manage symptoms to groundbreaking work in genetics and brain science, we are closer than ever to better treatments—and ultimately, a cure.
The McLean Moves 5K is proud to be launched with a clear purpose: 100% of proceeds from this inaugural event will go directly toward Parkinson’s research. Every step taken and every dollar raised brings us closer to meaningful progress.
This race is also deeply personal. Inspired by a local family’s journey with Parkinson’s, McLean Moves was created to bring the community together and make a difference right here at home. We believe that a strong, connected community like McLean can have a powerful impact—not just in raising funds, but in raising awareness and hope.
Join us as we move forward—together—for a future without Parkinson’s.
Parkinson's Foundation
The Parkinson’s Foundation makes life better for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. They focus on empowering the global Parkinson’s community through education, fostering inclusive research, and enhancing access to high-quality care for patients and caregivers.t.
Our First Year
As the inaugural McLean Moves 5K, this is our very first time bringing this event to life. Like any first-year race, there may be a few rough edges—but we’re embracing the journey and learning as we go.
What matters most is the purpose behind the event and the community coming together to support it. We are committed to making this race better each year and plan to return next year stronger, smoother, and even more impactful.
Following the race, we will provide transparency into our results and share how funds were used. All proceeds, after covering essential race expenses, will be donated to the Parkinson’s foundation (https://www.parkinson.org/).
Thank you for being part of the beginning.
