ABOUT US: SAA
The Student Advocates Association (SAA) supports students at Liberty University's College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM). Our goal encompasses three main priorities. First, we encourage students by providing post-exam snacks monthly, offering opportunities for parents, families, and students to participate in local events, and give families opportunities to show support to their students through different event recognition opportunities. Next, we aim to educate. We make it our goal to educate both the general public, as well as, student supporters about what the osteopathic profession does. We discuss differences and similarities between both the osteopathic (DO) and allopathic (MD) professions and aim to educate them on the benefits of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), which remains unique to osteopathic physicians. Lastly, we strive to empathize with the medical students, as well as, student supporters. Being a physician is a rewarding profession, but the road to get there can last upwards of 10 years. Our goal is to surround the students and provide them with the encouragement to continue pursuing their passion for medicine. While students and their spouses or families are often moving from across the country, we encourage them to get involved with our SAA events in order to feel welcome into their new hometown.
The Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association have sponsored this event through a generous grant donation for the execution of the event. The goal is to establish the LUCOM SAA Medical Hardship Grant with at least $1,500 and allocate this money specifically to a student(s) and his/her family facing a medical challenge during school.
