Scholarships
Cody and James Berg Memorial Scholarship
In 2007, Jim and Shelly Berg awarded the first Cody Berg Memorial Scholarships to six members of Cody's graduating class. Three of the scholarships focused on Cody's unique interest areas (running, drama, and the outdoors); the remaining three were general scholarships. Since that time, the Berg family continues to donate all proceeds from the Mill Pond Mile and has awarded $89,500 in scholarships to deserving members of the New London Spicer graduating class.
In 2023, the scholarship was renamed the "Cody and James Berg Memorial Scholarship" to recognize the years of love, dedication, and effort that Cody's dad – Jim Berg – put into the Mill Pond Mile. In 2002, Jim passed away after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.
