John grew up in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He enjoyed all things outdoors, to include anything with wheels. Later in life, he became a huge NASCAR fan and loved to attend the Bristol races with his fellow Guardsmen.John is a Soldier in the Tennessee Army National Guard and a veteran of the Iraq War, where he earned the Army Commendation Medal with V device for Valor for his actions during battle with the enemy near Turki Village on April 4th, 2005. He served in eastern Diyala Province with the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment during 2004-2005, and was awarded the Combat Action Badge. Upon his return, he continued his service as an Active Guard/Reserve Soldier with the Recruiting and Retention Battalion in Lenoir City and Knoxville. He touched the lives of many young Soldiers in the Recruit Sustainment Program. John was a true Soldier. He loved being a Soldier and truly felt his fellow Soldiers were his Brothers.
