Quality Care for Mothers Everywhere Virtual 5K

Sun April 11 - Fri April 30

Description

Challenge yourself to a Virtual 5K Race!

Make it even better by challenging a few of your friends!

This event is a way for us all to come together and demonstrate our support of quality care for mothers everywhere!  Your participation helps raise essential funds for Every Mother Counts.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Register for the 5K Run/Walk

  • It's more fun with friends! Tell your friends about the race and why you're running. It's always more fun when your friends are running alongside you (even if from afar), cheering you on, and maybe even talking a little smack (we won't judge)!

  • It’s Virtual - This means that you can choose when, where, and how to participate! Run, walk, jog, bike, or hike your 5K. Heck, you can even hop, skip, or jump it... though we think that might lead to some pretty sore calves. The 5K window will begin on April 11th, the first day of Black Maternal Health Week. Participants may complete their 5K anytime between April 11th - 30th.

  • Log your workouts on the results page (click here). You have until April 30, 2021 to submit your results.

  • We'll ship your awesome race swag to your door once all race results have been submitted.

CHARITY PARTNERS

Our Charity Partner for this virtual 5k is Every Mother Counts, a non-profit dedicated to advancing birth justice in the United States and around the world.

Every Mother Counts was born from the recognition that not all childbearing people enjoy the same access and privilege when it comes to maternity care. We understand that racial, social and geopolitical inequalities fuel maternal health disparities around the world. Tackling these inequities guides our work around the world and in the United States, where Black women remain 3x more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth related causes than their white counterparts. For the last decade, Every Mother Counts has worked in the U.S., partnering with Black and Indigenous community-based organizations that are combating racism to achieve birth justice. These incredible groups have long been leaders in the fight to eliminate racial disparities in maternal health, and to ensure every mother experiences quality, respectful and culturally-appropriate maternity care.

Did You Know?

  • More than 800 women die every day from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth. THAT’S 1 WOMAN EVERY 2 MINUTES.
  • Almost all global maternal deaths are prevented by ensuring women have access to quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care. Too few women have the access they need.
  • The U.S. is facing a maternal health crisis. Today, a woman is twice as likely to die from complications of pregnancy and birth than her mother was a generation ago.
  • Black and Indigenous women are 2-3 times more likely than white women to die from complications of pregnancy and birth.
