Dear YMCA Members, Community Partners, and Race Participants,
These last few weeks and months have been extraordinary as our community, state, country and world navigate the rapidly changing challenges related to COVID-19. Given all the uncertainty and the stress that come with these challenges, it has never been more critical to stay together, even as we follow the guidelines from officials to keep each other and our community healthy.
Based on continued recommendations from the CDC, state and local health officials and area health departments, we must postpone our 2020 Badin Lake Triathlon to tentatively June 5th, 2021.
At the Stanly County Family YMCA, everything we do is guided by our commitment to nurture the potential of children, support your health and well-being, and provide support for our neighbors and the community. We’re so much more than a gym. And here, at the Y, you’re much more than just a facility member, community partner or race participant. At our YMCA, you’re a part of our purpose and you’re a partner in strengthening the foundations of our community.
In difficult times, our Y has always boldly marched toward challenges and we pivot in response to community needs. Today is no different. You can help, and we’re counting on you.
As our postponed August race date approaches, we want to offer you options regarding your registration:
If you have any further questions or concerns moving forward, please do not hesitate to reach out to Derrick Almond at Dalmond@stanlyymca.org.
**Participants have until August 10th 2020 to contact Derrick Almond; otherwise their registration will be automatically deferred to our June 5th 2021 date.**
We realize you have to make the best decision for you and your family. On behalf of everyone in the community counting on our Y in the weeks ahead, thank you for your strong consideration to stay with us. Our community needs you.

The Badin Lake Triathlon provides a perfect opportunity for all fitness levels to get involved in a sprint triathlon. Participants will swim a 750 yard open water swim in Badin Lake, bike a 13 miles through rolling country roads of Stanly County, and run a 5K through historic Badin, NC.
In 2019, Badin Lake Triathlon joined forces with Trivium Racing and became part of the Trivium Multisport Series. Triathletes will have the opportunity to participate in several multisport events throughout the year with a chance to win a series prize at the end of the year. Visit Trivium Racing for more information.
Individuals will have the opportunity to compete in age group, Athena, or Clydesdale Divisions. Athletes competing in the Athena division must be female weighing 160 pounds or more. Athletes in the Clydesdale division must be male weighing 220 pounds or more.
The Relay Team Challenge encourages everyone in the community to get active and fit while having fun! It's a perfect way to get involved in the Badin Lake Triathlon without taking on all of the events. Three-man teams consist of one swimmer, one cyclist, and one runner. Two-man teams are welcome where one member of the team completes two of the legs. Teams can be All Male, All Female, or Coed.
Awards to be given to Overall, Age Group, Athena, Clydesdale, and Team Category winners.
Again this year, the Y would like you to help send underprivileged kids to camp this summer. With a gift of $30 you can send a kid to camp for a day this summer! Want to take it one step further and get your registration fee waived? Become a Fundraiser for the Send a Kid to Camp campaign and get your registration fee waived if you raise a minimum of $150. Not only will you get your registration fee waived but you will give a child an opportunity to experience the adventure and fun of day camp this year. In addition, all proceeds from the Badin Lake Triathlon support the YMCA Strong Communities Fund which funds the six signature programs of the Stanly County Family YMCA.
SAFETY MEETING will take place at 7:15 AM at the Transition Area.
RACE BEGINS at 7:30 AM with the first swimmer in the water.
