FAQs
What's the point of this thing? We FiA chicks like to have fun, get exercise, and support our friends. This is an opportunity for us to do all three!
I'm confused how this relay thing works. Can you give me an idea of what to expect? Sure! The relay is divided up into eight legs out and back. When you register, you can pick the leg(s) you want to run, walk, ruck or bike. Since this isn't a timed race but a fun run, there are no bibs, batons, or inflatable finish lines. There are some wonderful volunteers who will give you some sustenance and cheer you on and husbands of the FiA gals who will schlep you around/back to your car if need be.
How far is a 50 K? About 31 miles. Full disclosure-the leg distances in this relay are not exact. They were mapped out with Google Maps and some legs might be off by a few tenths of a mile or so.
Do I need to figure out my own team? No, but it sure is fun to get a group together, ride from exchange zone to exchange zone, and cheer your friends on. If you can't convince your friends to join you, no worries. You'll make new, better, albeit stinky, friends before the day is over.
Ugh, do I have to show up at 5:30am? No, but we hope you do! As mentioned above, hanging out with your peeps all morning is part of the fun.
If I just show up for my leg, how do I know when to get there? Good question. Wish I knew...jk...sort of...You'll probably need to do a little math to figure this out. Let's say you're running leg 6. You'll have to wait for someone (teammates can be planned by you or assigned by us) to finish leg 5 to begin. Leg distance up to that point is about 19.8 miles. Let's figure a 12 minute mile - 19.8 x 12 = 237.6 minutes / 60 minutes = 3.96 (around 4) hours, so you would want to be to your starting place at 9:30am.
I don't want to cross any bridges so which legs should I consider? Legs 3, 4, 5 and 6 don't cross any bridges.
I want to bike. Will there be other bikers? Yes, there is a group doing the whole thing and you can show up at 5:30am and join them.
Will there be awards after? Yes, we will have a lunch/awards ceremony at Tight Lines Brewing Company. They know to expect people beginning around noon but most coming in a little later. When you get there just go upstairs and to the right.
