Description

INTRODUCTION

Welcome, runners and hikers!

My name is Roman Newton, and I am the event coordinator for the Stride United Fun Run. I am proud to be a senior at the Alamance Burlington Early College, a varsity runner for Williams H.S. Cross Country and Track & Field, and a Boy Scout belonging to Troop 19. As a scout, I must complete an "Eagle Project" to complete my journey to becoming an Eagle Scout. For my project, I have organized this fantastic community event. Collaborating with local businesses and the people of Alamance County has made this project so unique, and I have truly learned a lot from this project-planning experience. Furthermore, since I have run countless meets throughout my running career, it feels like a wish fulfilled to finally be leading one myself.

Stride United truly is a culmination of what I love most: the great outdoors and the local community.

THE TRAIL 👟

  • Five kilometers (3.1 miles)
    • Run AND/OR Walk
  • Moderate terrain:
    • Dirt trail (with a brief paved section)
    • Expect some roots, small rocks, and uneven terrain in certain sections
    • PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Medical staff will be on standby, but we still strongly advise that you run/walk with caution and adjust your pace according to the terrain.
  • This is a fun run/walk, so no official times are recorded. If you would like a racing bib, we can provide one for you and record your time. Otherwise, enjoy the 5K at whatever pace you're comfortable with!
  • *Map of course coming soon*

SPECIAL THANKS 🙏

Thank you to all the leaders and people who have helped me make Stride United Possible. Thank you to my Williams Cross-Country coach, Brian "Shaggy" Smith, for your devotion to the sport and for bringing out the best in me at every practice and every meet. Thank you also to my Troop 19 scoutmasters, Dave Parker, Dan Wright, Mickey Kluttz, Chuck Shepard, and Randy McKnight, for guiding me not only in my Eagle Project but also for teaching me how to be a strong leader, both in scouting and in other aspects of my life. Thank you to my parents and grandparents for your priceless advice and for being there when I had questions or concerns. Thank you to all my teammates, fellow scouts, and peers who have shown nothing but overwhelming support.

Also, thank you to all of our generous sponsors for this event. Their contributions have helped cover material costs such as T-shirts, awards, food items, etc.. Please check out these wonderful, local businesses of Alamance County.
