UNC SNDA Oral Cancer 5K Run/Walk - CANCELED

New Date: Spring 2021

Thank you all for your support of our Oral Cancer 5K. This event is only possible due to people like you who dedicate their time, money, and efforts towards this cause. For that, we are incredibly grateful from the bottom of our hearts.

In light of COVID-19 and our stay-at-home situation, it is with reluctance and sadness that we must announce that UNC Student National Dental Association's annual Oral Cancer 5K Run/Walk & Community Health Fair is officially canceled.

Nevertheless, our community with head and neck cancer still need our help. Being diagnosed with cancer creates significant financial and personal hardships – sometimes life-changing. Treatment can be harsh on the body. Costs can be substantial. Over 50,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer annually, and nearly 10,000 of those die from it. In the US, 1 person dies from oral cancer each hour, every day. We understand that this is a difficult time for many of us, especially financially. However, if you are able to and would like to further aid our case, please consider donating at https://give.unc.edu/donate?f=202079&p=dent. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We are going to fight for patients living with head and neck cancer, with your help. THANK YOU for your contributions and please, join us again for next year’s race to continue fighting against oral cancer!
Join the UNC Student National Dental Association in the annual Oral Cancer 5K Run/Walk & Community Health Fair on Saturday May 30, 2020 at 8 AM.

In honor of UNC Adam’s School of Dentistry’s very own oral cancer survivor, Dr. Scott Eidson, all proceeds will be donated to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide accessible and affordable treatment to head and neck cancer patients throughout North Carolina.

Our community health fair efforts are to create oral cancer awareness, and to educate the public on the importance of prevention and screening to assist in early detection of this disease. We will be offering FREE oral cancer screenings on-site, in addition to diverse activities and services offered by various health profession volunteers.
