Carolina Thread Trail: Race Through The Carolinas

Mon February 12 - Mon July 8, 2024 Charlotte, NC 28270 US Directions

Place

9506 Monroe Rd STE A
Charlotte, NC US 28270

Description

This is a VIRTUAL 350- or 520-mile race, in which you will cover the total current distance of the Carolina Thread Trail. We will be raising money for the organization that runs it: Catawba Land Conservancy.

The Carolina Thread Trail (CTT) is your regional network of connected greenways, trails and blueways that reaches 15 counties, 2 states and 2.9 million people. There are over 350 miles of trails and 170 miles of blueway open to the public. With support from lovers of nature and the outdoors, the CTT will eventually be over 1600 miles, with trails and greenways stretching from Statesville, NC to Great Falls, SC. Explore more and plan your next adventure at https://www.carolinathreadtrail.org/

They have done a phenomenal job giving us hundreds of miles of trails; with plans to add hundreds more. This is your opportunity to help! By participating in this event you will be helping raise money for the Catawba Land Conservancy to keep making our local communities better with walking and hiking trails for everyone.

The 350 mile option will take you through all of the land trails on the Carolina Thread Trail. The 520 mile option will include their Blueways which are the waterways of the Carolina Thread Trail.

Here is a quick note from Nate Kingsley, owner of Oak Performance

This challenge is about two things: first, raising money for the organization that keeps
our trails beautiful and fun for our communities, and second, to kickstart healthy habits.

I am the fitness guy, so I will stick to talking about the latter...

Healthy habits do not just forge on their own. They take time, hard work, and discipline.
This is the main reason that even with good motivation, many of us struggle to form and
keep healthy habits.

One thing I know for certain, though, is that it is much easier to start and continue
healthy habits when you do them in a group.

This challenge is designed to hold you accountable to not only yourself, but other
competitors in this race. Many of us think of certain tasks as overwhelming. For
example, a 520 mile race...

But that is the point! We want to set high, yet reasonable expectations for ourselves,
because it will make us work harder, and feel better when we accomplish them.
If our goal is not challenging, it is not a goal worth doing. 350 or 520 miles is a great
goal over a 6-month stretch.

Let’s break it down though to show you how attainable it really is, and why all of you can
do it!

520 miles over the course of 6 months equals approximately 2.9 miles/day.
That is a high number, but if you were to walk at a 15 min/mile pace that is just THREE
15 minute walks per day.

350 miles over the course of 6 months equals approximately 1.9 Miles/day.
That again is a high number, but if you were to walk at a 15 min/mile pace that is just
TWO 15 minute walks per day.

Even the busiest of people have time for 30 minutes of walking per day.
This doesn't even account for you being able to log miles doing anything!
You can bike, row, run, walk, kayak, golf, mow the lawn, or anything else that logs
distance. The only rule is that you have to INTENTIONALLY get miles. You cannot just
log your total daily steps. You have to go out of your way to move.
That is really what all this is about. Moving more.

I am positive that each and every one of you can do this, and I will try my best to keep
you going along the way.
Good luck, and see you on The Carolina Thread Trail!

Yours in strength,
Nate

P.S. You can log your distance anywhere, but I encourage you to check out a nearby
segment of the Carolina Thread Trail. Find a trail at the online trail map.
