Durham, NC – Downtown Durham will come alive with runners, walkers, musicians and community activists showing their commitment to racial justice on Saturday, April 9, during the 5K Race Forward run/2.2 mile solidarity walk sponsored by Infinity Diamond Club’s We Are 1 Conference. The goal of the walk is to show a commitment to racial justice and to raise funds for Infinity Diamond Club a local non-profit dedicated to the work of inclusion & Organizing Against Racism (OAR-NC) a Triangle based organization dedicated to equity.

Partnering with E.K. Powe Elementary, the race’s course will wind its way through Old West Durham, Walltown and Trinity Park, circling Duke East Campus and guiding runners and walkers through areas of the city tied to its racial history.

Race Route and Parking

Sponsor

Infinity Diamond Club (IDC) is a social empowerment organization dedicated to changing lives and building communities. IDC holds an annual conference: We Are 1.  "The conference is a four-day event in April that seeks to empower and inspire individuals to live their best lives,” said Robin Criffield, We Are 1 conference committee member. “We are now in our eighth year and because we believe ‘we are one,’ it is important to our mission to incorporate a community outreach activity that aids in healing the community, strengthens our own healing process and creates intentional relationships in a world where all people are deeply valued.”

Race Benefactors

In Infinity Diamond Club's commitment to unity and community, race proceeds will be shared between IDC and Organizing Against Racism (OAR). OAR is a network of anti-racism groups in the Triangle that work together, through education and action, to build a strong collective, of local people who have taken the Racial Equity Institute’s (REI) two-day anti-racism training, actively advocating for racial equity. OAR member, Camryn Smith says, “Part of our mission is to create real racial equity, and we have to learn how to deconstruct historical, cultural and institutional racism and build something new and revolutionary in its place.” OAR comes together to continue developing awareness about how racism lives in each of us and in our institutions, so that we may be strong, organized and clear in our efforts to dismantle racism.
