Description

The Mission

Gather as many checkpoints in the allotted time as possible.

The team or individual with the most checkpoints in the least amount of time wins.

All participants must supply and carry a dry 30 pound ruck for the event. Weight cannot include water or food.

Teams will be gifted an additional weighted item (coupon) from the race director that will be carried during the time trial hikes.

Sections of the course will require map and compass navigation. NO GPS will be allowed for the main race.

 

Outline of the Mission

Start will be Friday night at 22:00

1.      At the start, teams and solos will run a prescribed course (1/2 mile) to the sand pit.

         No one will need to carry their ruck for this section.

  •  At the sand pit they will fill, to regulation standards, one sandbag per person.  Once the sandbag(s) is filled racers will return, along a path(1/2 mile) back to the race start.

2.      First time-trail hike (2 miles)

All individuals will carry their ruck and teams with will carry the added coupon weight provided. Racers will hike the designated trails out and back to a turnaround point on the trail. At the turnaround, there will we be a punch card station. This is to confirm that you have covered the full distance.

To meet standards and receive the full 20 points, this must be completed in 30 minutes or less.

If completed in 31-38 minutes they will receive only 15 points.

If completed in over 38 minutes only 10 points.

 

3.      First navigation section. 

With the use of a compass and a provided map teams will collect as many checkpoints as you desire. 

You may collect the points in any order. Teams will need to not carry the coupon weight for this section.

This section of the race closes at 02:00.  This could be 2-3 miles in length off trail hike in the woods.

 

4.      Second time trial hike (3 miles)

All individuals with their ruck and teams with the added coupon weight will hike the designated trails in a clockwise direction. Along the route are checkpoints to punch to confirm you have completed the full loop.

To meet the standard and receive the full 30 points this must be completed in 50 minutes or less.

If completed in 51-60 minutes they will receive only 25 points.

If completed in over 60 minutes only 15 points.

 

5.     Second navigation section. 

With the use of a compass and a provided map teams will collect as many checkpoints as you desire. 

You may collect the points in any order. Teams will need to not carry the coupon weight for this section.

 

6.      Return sandbags ------One last out and back run before the finish.

Finish before 06:00 Saturday morning

The mission brief above is subject to change. This brief also has omitted challenges that will be revealed at pre race meeting.

 

Post race

Food will be provided starting at 4:30 am and though race awards at 07:00.

Awards will go to top three teams in each category. Solo, two person teams and three person teams.  

 

GPS assisted category --Solo or Teams that wish to use a GPS to aid in the navigation will be placed in a separate category. This group will also start the race one hour after the main race has begun at 23:00 with the same cutoff for completing the race. If you do not start off in the category and use any GPS enabled device during the race teams will be DQed. 

 

Required Gear

Each individual must have a 30LBS weighted backpack (RUCK). The weight should not include any water, food or required gear that the participant will cary.

Headlights and batteries to last the duration of the race.

One compass per team is required. one per person is recommended.

Basic first aid for bumps and scrapes per team. This is about your safety so don't forget it. build your own or use a pre made one. Our goto kit is Adventure Medical kit 7

Appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather. -

You will be transitioning several times near your car. You may stage food or change of clothes in this area to reduce the cary weight of your ruck.

HOWEVER remember the clock is always tick...tick...ticking away and does not stop till you complete the mission.

Picnic shelter #2 at the far end of the road. Overflow parking will be at the lake side parking. Carpool.
