Take the Lake celebrates 11 years this Labor Day weekend with a refreshed schedule of events. Join us Saturday, August 31, 2019, for a certified 5K, 1-mile Family Fun Run, Post Race Breakfast Celebration and 10K family bike ride all based at Elizabeth Brinkley Park. Sunday will be a day to enjoy family, the lake and Labor Day weekend festivities. Labor Day Monday, September 2 starts with the traditional 4-mile Labor Day Swim across Lake Waccamaw, plus a 1-mile swim and 6-mile paddle. Take the Lake kicks off Friday night, August 30, with Take the Plate spaghetti fundraiser dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church. Take the Lake has a 3-year plan to return to the long distance personal walk/run and bike challenges. In 2020, we will keep the 2019 events and add back the 16-mile walk/run. In 2021, we add back the 16-mile bike. Look out for updates on Facebook and TakeTheLake.org. As always, register online early for an easy, event-day launch.

Requirements
People ages nine to seniors have swum this lake in a Labor Day tradition since the 1940s.
Each swimmer must have a safety escort boat – paddle or motor – with an adult for this 2-5 hour swim.
Keep Calm and Swim On for four miles, following yellow buoys.
Wetsuits are allowed.
You must report to us if you drop out.
For the Lee J. Greer Award, you must swim unassisted without propulsion aids. You may hold a boat that doesn’t move you forward.
SILVER SWIM RELAY: Up to four people age 55 or older who have completed this or a comparable swim. This is the only PEC where relay teams are allowed.
Dale’s Seafood awards successful solo 4-Mile Labor Day swimmers with a free lunch special – bring your Lee J. Greer award.
You should be done in less than four hours.

What to bring
A faithful adult friend or relative to guide you - Patience helps.
Kayaks - work very well, as do small boats.
Electric trolling motors - are great, and no gas fumes!
Also helpful - Goggles. Swim cap (for visibility). Swim fins or snorkel are NOT allowed. Wetsuits are allowed.
Pack that boat with plenty of provisions for a long haul: Food, water, sunscreen, clothes, etc.
