The Wild Turkey 5K Trail Run and Walk is going Virtual! Walk, jog, run or race 3.1 miles anytime on September 19th! Everyone is welcome! We’ve no idea what kind of restrictions will need to be in place by September, so rather than having to risk canceling the on-site race, we’ve decided that a Virtual race will be the next best thing. Everyone still wants to stay active, stay connected with others via social media, and support local charities so we are offering the Virtual Wild Turkey 5K as a fun option for your 3rd Saturday in September!
No performance prizes will be awarded this year, but we will award random participants with fun prizes.
Proceeds from the 2020 Wild Turkey 5K benefit the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, a non-profit wildlife rescue organization located in Indian Trail, NC. CWR is run by federally-licensed migratory bird rehabilitators specializing in waterfowl, providing medical treatment and care to orphaned or injured wild birds and other animals. CWR is an all-volunteer group that donates their time, money and expertise to helping North Carolina's birds in need.
HOW DOES THE VIRTUAL RACE WORK?
First, you need to register! Race fees are $20 per person. Groups of 4 receive $5.00 discount each! Kids aged 5 to 15 pay just $10.00! There will be NO price increases closer to the event.
Pick up your swag bag and t-shirt on Friday, September 18th or Saturday September 19th (see designated times and locations).
Instead of meeting and running/walking the specified course with a group at a designated time, you can run the 3.1 miles by yourself or with friends any time on September 19th, anywhere you choose.
Split the distance. If you are a brand new runner, by all means alternate running and walking, or feel free to break the walk into 2 or 3 sessions, just get 3.1 miles in by midnight!
If you are more experienced, you may want to record your run/walk by using Strava or any other method. Virtual runners may post their times and course on our Facebook page so we can all share in your accomplishment. You may also post on this website under the RESULTS tab. Recording is optional.
Take a selfie after you’ve completed your run/walk, add a short blurb about your experience, and post to our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/UnionCountyHeritageFestival/
Now take your shoes off, grab a cool beverage, sit back and check out the Virtual Union County Heritage Festival between 9am and 4pm happening VIRTUALLY on the website: https://www.unioncountyheritagefestival.org/ and Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/UnionCountyHeritageFestival/
Donate! If you’re unable to participate, but would still like to make a donation to help out the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, click on the DONATE tab at the top.
Save the date for the next Wild Turkey 5K and Union County Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 18, 2021!
