Memorial 'Merica Melon Run and 5K

• Race Purpose: The Memorial 'Merica Melon Run and 5K is a fundraising race for the Enola Community Trail at Patton High and Mull Elementary Schools in Morganton, NC. All moneys will go to funding the trail construction. Donations for this community and educational use trail are welcome.
• Location: The race will be held at 701 Enola Rd. in Morganton, NC on the campus of Patton High School at exit 104 of I-40. The course starts and ends on the track in the football stadium and circuits the campus twice on about 1/2 asphalt and 1/2 grass. Be aware that the course is rather hilly. Along with the theme of celebrating America and our veterans with eating melons, there will be two special running categories:
• 1) Melon Relay: A three member team carries a melon one mile each before handing it off to a teammate. The time is recorded when the melon carrier crosses the finish line.*
• 2) Band of Brothers (or Sisters): A team of three to ten runners carry a melon between them. The last of the team members to cross the line is counted as the group's time.*
• *The group must provide the melon. The team is disqualified if the melon is dropped and broken or even cracked.
• Awards will be given for top three overall men's and women's categories, age categories less than 10, 10-14, and each 5 year increment ending at 70+. Group awards for Melon Run and Band of Brothers (Sisters) will given.
• The snack after the race will be melon and other fruit.
• Price of the race is $15 without a t-shirt and $25 with a t-shirt, $10 for the 1 mile Fun Run with a t-shirt and free for the Fun Run without a t-shirt. Donations are appreciated and will be used to build the Enola Community Trail.
• Race time is 8 AM for the 1 mile run (4 track laps) and 8:30 AM for the 5K. Registration and packet pick-up will begin a 7 AM. Race results will be listed at RunSignUp ( https://runsignup.com/memorialmericamelon5K)
