• Presentations begin at 9:30am:

  • 9:30am - 10:30am – Sam Seavey 
    Join Sam Seavey of The Blind Life for an inspiring, practical look at living with vision loss as he shares his journey with Stargardt's disease and the assistive technologies that have shaped it. You'll leave with useful tools, fresh ideas, and a glimpse into the future of blindness technology.

  • 11:00am - 12:00pm – Rebecca Sitton
    This session will explore how AI is transforming Assistive Technology and digital accessibility in education by enhancing tools like speech‑to‑text, captioning, note‑taking, and text simplification while automating key accessibility tasks. It will also cover ethical considerations and show how intentional use of AI can shift education from basic compliance to proactive inclusion for all learners.

  • 1:15pm - 2:15pm – Tammy Wallace and Rachell Johnson
    This session will highlight how assistive technology supports independence across home, school, work, and community settings, offering practical solutions for communication, learning, organization, mobility, and daily living. Through real‑world examples, participants will explore a continuum of tools and person‑centered strategies to improve access, participation, and independence for individuals of all ages.

  • 2:45pm - 3:45pm – Angus Kola
    Angus Kola will share his journey from sudden vision loss to becoming a successful AT trainer and contractor, reflecting on early challenges in South Africa, the transformative power of screen readers, and the support that shaped his path. His story highlights resilience, independence, and the life‑changing impact of accessible technology.

CRC credits & a Certificate of Completion will be offered for all Expo sessions

The North Carolina Assistive Technology Program (NCATP), funded by state and federal sources, hosts an annual Assistive Technology Expo in Raleigh at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center. It’s a public, hybrid, no-cost event designed for people with disabilities, their families, therapists, educators, rehab counselors, employers, and anyone interested in assistive technology.

The NCATP 2026 AT Expo features an Exhibition Hall with close to 50 exhibitors showcasing AT devices—ranging from speech-generating devices to vision-enhancing technology to accessible software, a Maker's Room-to display DIY AT and education presentations (session attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance which can be submitted to your specific licensure board for Professional Development Hours).

Once again, NCATP 2026 AT Expo is a hybrid event - combining the tangible energy of an in-person event with the convenience and broad reach of virtual access - truly embodying the NCATP mission: "TO PROMOTE INDEPENDENCE AND INCLUSION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY".
