Description

Join us for the 2nd Annual Race to the River 5K & Fun Run in conjunction with Rowan County Creek Week 2023!

Race to the River 5K Course (see map below): Fast point to point course!! Rowan Creek Week's second annual Race to the River 5K will start at the Spencer Fire Department (208 Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC, 28159) and follow US-29 North to the finish line at Spencer's Yadkin River Park Trailhead (Old NC Finishing Company) and the Wil-Cox Bridge. Trolley shuttles (sponsored by Novant Health) will provide transportation back to Spencer Town Hall parking lot between 3:30 and 6:00 p.m.

Race to the River Fun Run: Following the 5K, a 1/2-mile youth fun run will be held, starting at the 5K race finish line. Runners will cross the Wil-Cox Bridge over the Yadkin River and then return to the race starting point for the finish line.

Shirts: Each participant will receive a race t-shirt and sponsor bag with miscellaneous treats and gifts.

Awards - Following the races at Yadkin River Park Trailhead:
5K - Top 3 Overall Male & Female, Top 3 Masters Male & Female, Top 3 in each age group Male & Female: 10 & Under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & Over

Fun Run - Top 3 Overall ages 12 and under

Race-Day Registration ($35-5k / $10-Fun Run) & Check-In / Packet Pick Up: 1:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. - at Spencer Town Hall (460 S. Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC 28159)

All proceeds benefit Rowan Creek Week.

Timing and scoring for the 5K will be provided by Salisbury Rowan Runners.

Race Beneficiary - Rowan Creek Week

Creek Week is a week-long celebration of local waters throughout North Carolina. This year, Rowan Creek Week will be September 16th-23rd. In conjunction with multiple organizations and local municipal departments, Creek Week offers recreational, educational, and volunteer opportunities to allow everyone to enjoy and contribute to healthy waters in our area.

2:00 PM - Pedal Factory Bike Ride (Leg 1) starts at the Pedal Factory in Salisbury

2:45 PM - Pedal Factory Bike Ride (Leg 2) starts in downtown Spencer

3:00 PM - 5K Starts at Spencer Fire Department

4:00 PM - Fun Run Starts at Yadkin River Park Trailhead

4:30 PM - Awards at Yadkin River Park Trailhead

6:00 PM - Sunset paddle launch at York Hill Yadkin River Access (1212 Wilcox Way, Linwood, NC 27299)

3:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Food, beverage, and live entertainment at Yadkin River Park Trailhead

Spencer's Yadkin River Park

The Race to the river 5K finish line and Fun Run will take place at the Town of Spencer's NEW Yadkin River Park Trailhead at Fieldcrest Cannon Lane, Salisbury, NC 28144. Following the races, join us at Spencer's Yadkin River Park Trailhead for awards, food trucks, and live entertainment from 3 to 7 p.m.

Medication Take Back Event

To keep our waterways clean, the Town of Spencer, Spencer Police Department, Rowan County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Rowan County Public Health will be hosting a Medication Take- Back event for citizens to dispose of unused or expired medications from 1:00-2:30 PM at Spencer Town Hall (460 South Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC 28159). Pedal Factory Bike Ride

Join the Pedal Factory for a bike ride from downtown Salisbury to Spencer (Leg 1) and/or from Spencer to the Yadkin River Park (Leg 2). Leg 1 departs the Pedal Factory bike shop (311 E Council St, Salisbury, NC 28144) at 2:00 p.m. Leg 2 departs Spencer Town Hall (460 S. Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC 28159) in Park Plaza at 2:45 p.m. Participants must BYO (bring your own) bikes and helmets, or rentals are available. Advance signup is required. Row Co River Adventures Sunset Paddle

Join Row Co River Adventures for a guided group sunset paddle along the Yadkin River. The group will meet and launch at the York Hill Boat Access at Yadkin River Park at 6:00pm. Approximate trip is a 1-hour, easy paddle. Row Co River Adventures will be providing kayak rentals for the event. Participants can rent a single or double kayak for a nominal fee.
