Background
The Prohibition 4K was created as a fun way for health enthusiast to get together and enjoy great food and beverages in the wonderful town of Spruce Pine, North Carolina. On March 10, 2009, Spruce Pine NC voters elected to get the town “wet”. This made one of the last few towns in NC able to sell alcohol within city limits. With this vote brought some great new restaurants in to our small town. The Prohibition 4K is was to celebrate the great restaurant and bar options that have arrived since that time. Knife and Fork and its owner Nate Allen opened its doors shortly after this vote passed and since then has made an incredible impact on the local community by making Spruce Pine a culinary destination for many tourist. In summer of 2014 Nate opened the cocktail bar Spoon (The Prohibition 4K Chief Sponsor) which in the same way that Knife and Fork is focused on the elements that are available to us here in Western North Carolina in the restaurant, Nate is trying to mirror that with cocktails at Spoon.
Event details and schedule
The Course
The design of the Prohibition 4K course is to highlight the downtown area of Spruce Pine by running on an incredibly beautiful course which highlights the downtown area as well as Riverside Park. The course will begin at the beautiful new pocket park on Locust Street. From there runners will run across the Highland Avenue Bridge and turn on Summit Avenue toward Riverside Park. Runner will run along the North Toe River in the park and loop back out to East Tappan Street, across the bridge again, and run on Oak Avenue downtown out to The Pizza Shop and Dry County Brewing. Dry County Brewing will be set up as a “Watering Hole” where runners can sample some great local brews before they turn around and head back to Locust Street. Runners will run the length of Lower Street (Locust Street) and finish across the road from Knife and Fork next to the train tracks.
The After Party
After runners finish there will be a large outdoor after party in the courtyard between Knife and Fork and Spoon. Runners will receive a pint glass, one free beverage and a Barbeque plate provided by the restaurant. Tents will be set up so the after party will carry on rain or shine!
