Wadesboro's Escape the Zombies 5k

Once again, at this year's PeopleFest, sponsored by the Town of Wadesboro, we will be hosting a Zombie Escape 5k Run/Walk/Obstacle Course.  

The Course

This course will be unlike any other race sponsored by the Town of Wadesboro.  Not only will participants be facing the clock in their run or walk, but also Zombies who want to Eat, we mean, tag you, along with some other obstacles along the way.  Unlike in most races, the map of this race will not be released prior to the event, and will remain confidential, however, last year's participants may be a little familiar.  Along the course, a few obstacles will be encountered, however, these obstacles will not be difficult to navigate.  We do want to caution all participants that it is possible you will get wet, muddy and dirty during this race, so prepare, plan and dress appropriately.  Yes, your clothes may get permanently stained so don't wear anything you don't want soiled.

How it Works (Things have Changed)

Last year we used flag belts to simulate Zombie attacks, however, many runners and Zombies complained that the belts were not adequate, so we're doing away with them.  This year our zombies will have washable spray paint, which when they're close to a runner, will be sprayed on the runner.  If you have paint marks you will be considered bitten.  Every runner who has been bitten will receive a 3-minute penalty on their final time.  Find a health pack and you can recoup some of your loss!  Each runner will only be allowed to possess one pack with a value of 2-minutes.  Should that runner escape the Zombies with no paint marks, the health pack will be worthless.  

Awards (New Age Groups)

Awards will be given to the overall fastest and "healthiest" finisher, along with the fastest overall runner in the following categories for males and females:

- Ages 7-9; 10-13; 14-18; 19-25; 26-35; 36-45; 46-55; 56+

This year we added younger age categories in response to many of our runners who run as families.

Zombies

Zombies along the course will be of all shapes and sizes.  Some can run, some can't.  However, our Zombies will not attack or hurt you, so we encourage our participants to do the same.  Zombies can sign up through this registration site as either a volunteer or a paid participant.  Paid participants will receive the official event T-Shirt.  We do encourage Zombie participants (volunteer or paid) to do their own hair, makeup and wardrope.  We also encourage and require that wardropes be suitable for all age groups.

Registration

All registrations will be completed online through this website.  All early registrants will receive an event t-shirt as part of their registration cost.  Same-day registrations will also be completed online at the site of the event, however, only a small amount of event T-shirts above that of pre-registered participants will be ordered and we cannot guarantee late registrants will receive a shirt.  No extra shirts will be ordered after the event.  Particpants can begin checking in at 8:30 AM on race day in the parking lot beside the Wadesboro Police Department.
