Description

We all have a reason for running. Who do you run for? The 2nd Annual RUN for YOU will be held Saturday, October 29 with festivities running from 7am-11am. There will 4 on-site events as well as a virtual race.

- Superhero Stride: 5k/3.1mile chip-timed USA Track & Field certified & sanctioned run/walk
- Sidekick Shuffle: 1.1mile run/walk
- Heros-in-training Dash (6 & under 50-yard dash)
- No Run Fun Run: all the fun of race day without actually having to run
- Virtual 5K: t-shirts and race numbers will be sent to out-of-town runners unable to attend in person

By including the “no run fun run” and the “virtual 5K” we embrace friends, family, and others in who want to help but can’t (or don’t want to) run.

Our run is dedicated to the memory of Sam Hopper. Sam lived in Raleigh for 6 short years and all that knew him loved him. He earned his wings in October 2014 but his memory lives on. He was a huge superhero fan so we will be encouraging people to bring out their inner superhero. A portion of our proceeds will go to the Sam Hopper Memorial Fund. Superhero costumes are strongly encouraged! If you can't wear a costume or t-shirt then wear red!

Our run is held in honor of Alison Price and a donation will be made to the Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (CureFA.org) in Alison’s honor.

Friedrich’s Ataxia is a genetic debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder affecting 1 in 50,000. Symptoms include lost of coordination (ataxia) in arms and legs, fatigue, muscle loss, vision impairment, hearing loss, slurred speech, aggressive scoliosis, insulin dependent diabetes, and/or a serious heart condition all while maintaining full mental capabilities.

Most young people diagnosed require canes, walkers, or wheelchairs by their teens. There are no known treatments. That’s where CureFA.org comes into the picture!
