THE RACE
Kick off your Independence Day with a race!
The Battle for Independence is a 4th of July race in Wilmington, NC, giving participants the chance to battle it out along Independence Blvd. on Wilmington’s scenic Cross City Trail. The race is flat and fast, helping draw in the best athletes in our region, but is also family friendly for runners of all ages.
We treat each Battle for Independence Race participant with southern hospitality as we celebrate the birth of our nation and honor those who serve.

If you register by June 4th and attend packet pickup, or race day, you will get a shirt in your size. Otherwise, you can choose from remaining sizes when you register.

THE COURSE
The Pointe at Barclay

The Battle for Independence 5K & 1 Mile start and finish at The Pointe at Barclay along Independence Blvd. The race travels from the Pointe, to the shady Halyburton Park; Named for Congressional Medal of Honor Award Winner, and New Hanover High School Graduate, William Halyburton. The keyhole route takes advantage of shady paved trails and flat easy running.
This race course is also stroller and wheelchair friendly!
However, dogs are not allowed on this course so please leave them at home or with a non-running spectator.
