THE RACE

The 6th Annual Flunk Cancer 5K and 1 Mile Walk/Run takes place at Sunset Park Elementary School in Wilmington, North Carolina.

It benefits the Flunk Cancer Foundation – a non-profit that supports local teachers and their families with the emotional, physical and psychological effects of cancer.

The run is also in memory of Shannon McHone, a teacher whose valiant battle with Glioblastoma ended April 2019. The Flunk Cancer Foundation continues her legacy by benefiting teachers battling this disease.

RACE SWAG

Register by July 31, 2025 and attend the event, and you will receive a Flunk Cancer 5K race shirt. Those who register on or after August 1st can choose from remaining sizes while supplies last.

Virtual Participants:
You do have the option to pay for your shirt to be mailed.  Shirts will be mailed after the race.

This will start and finish at Sunset Park Elementary School.

This race course is also stroller, wheelchair and dog friendly!

THE CAUSE

The Flunk Cancer Foundation was created by the family and friends of Wilmington teacher Shannon McHone, who was diagnosed with brain cancer, and after a valiant, nine year battle, she passed away in April 2019.

Flunk Cancer’s purpose is to address, educate and provide aid and relief to teachers and school administrators, their families and caregivers suffering from newly diagnosed cancer and/or ongoing treatment.
