'Tis the holiday season! Although we might not have snow, there's nothing more fun than a coastal Christmas run! Join us for a festive 5K and 10K race around the campus of UNCW. Bring your holiday cheer - prizes will be awarded to our most spirited runners!
NEW LOCATION FOR 2023
Although we have loved our location at Legion Stadium and Greenfield Lake for many years, our participation numbers have now exceeded what we feel is safe and manageable for the trail at Greenfield Lake. SO...we are moving to UNCW! Start and Finish on the UNCW TRACK! All post-race fun will be held at the infield of the track.
The William H. Craig Race for Life is a celebratory race for the YMCA's Girls on the Run, Heart & Sole and STRIDE participants. These programs encourage kids and families to pursue a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living while building confidence in their ability to complete a 5K. Come join boys and girls in grades 3-8, as they celebrate their accomplishments of the season! Public runners are welcome as this race provides much-needed scholarships for future Girls on the Run and STRIDE participants.
A fun and festive atmosphere, William H. Craig Race for Life 5K and 10K celebrates friends, family and wellness!
Long Sleeve Race Shirt. Add on the matching holiday PJ pants during registration.
Santa, candy canes, and hot chocolate at the finish line!

Walking and Running Programs
Interested in walking, jogging, or running but don’t know where to start? The Y’s Walk to Jog (W2J) and Jog to Run (J2R) programs are the perfect solution for you! These 8-week introductory program eases you into running gradually. Throughout the training the two groups will meet twice a week to build endurance and confidence for each participant to complete a 3.1 mile race! Our skilled and motivating coaches will give you the skills and self-assurance to introduce you to a lifetime of running!
W2J and J2R is held every fall and spring.
Walk to Jog (W2J)
This is a less – intense 10-week training agenda focusing on the basics of walking mechanics gradually preparing for a slow to moderate pace jog. This is a beginner level program modified for those athletes just getting started on their race training journey or returning after an injury/extended absence. Led by our Community Health Coordinator and certified walk coach, Robin Seitz, the W2J curriculum is supplemented within the Walk with Ease Grant.
Jog to Run (J2R)
This is a higher intensified 10-week workout regime that begins with a slower pace jog and graduates to a faster jog/running movement pattern. Designed by our Community Health Staff Member, and certified run coach, Tracy Meyerson, the J2R program will prepare the beginner to seasoned race participant for their upcoming race through a steady routine of anaerobic and aerobic workouts.
Both programs are open to all non-member and members of the YMCA of Southeastern NC with all proceeds going to cover race fees and coaching programs.
