YMCA 5K Training Program
Walking and Running Programs
Interested in walking, jogging, or running but don’t know where to start? The Y’s Walk to Jog (W2J) and Jog to Run (J2R) programs are the perfect solution for you! These 8-week introductory program eases you into running gradually. Throughout the training the two groups will meet twice a week to build endurance and confidence for each participant to complete a 3.1 mile race! Our skilled and motivating coaches will give you the skills and self-assurance to introduce you to a lifetime of running!
W2J and J2R is held every fall and spring.
Walk to Jog (W2J)
This is a less – intense 10-week training agenda focusing on the basics of walking mechanics gradually preparing for a slow to moderate pace jog. This is a beginner level program modified for those athletes just getting started on their race training journey or returning after an injury/extended absence. Led by our Community Health Coordinator and certified walk coach, Robin Seitz, the W2J curriculum is supplemented within the Walk with Ease Grant.
Jog to Run (J2R)
This is a higher intensified 10-week workout regime that begins with a slower pace jog and graduates to a faster jog/running movement pattern. Designed by our Community Health Staff Member, the J2R program will prepare the beginner to seasoned race participant for their upcoming race through a steady routine of anaerobic and aerobic workouts.
Both programs are open to all non-member and members of the YMCA of Southeastern NC with all proceeds going to cover race fees and coaching programs.
