Description

This is a unique challenge race where you have up to 3 days to complete your selected distance, running as many segments as you want.  The goal is simply to complete your challenge distance during the 3 day period.  You can run hard and race your distance, or run/walk the distance at an easier pace.  You have the FREEDOM to run the challenge that you want.

There are three Individual Distance challenges to choose from.  The challenge is to be completed during the weekend of July 4th, beginning on July 3 and finishing on July 5.

  1. The Independence 7.4 Mile Challenge Race (7.4 miles for July 4th)

  2. The Freedom 17.76 Mile Challenge Race (17.76 miles for 1776, the year of independence)

  3. The Statehood 50 Kilometer Challenge Race (50K for 50 states)

Example:  You can run 5 miles on Friday, 7.76 miles on Saturday, and 5 miles on Sunday for a total of 17.76 miles.

Special recognition will be presented for the best Strava Art created during one or more of your weekend runs.  Extra credit for patriotic-themed Strava Art!

How Virtual Races Work

You must register to participate and registration must be completed no later than Sunday afternoon, 7/5.

You can run your virtual challenge anytime between Friday and Sunday and can split up your distance into multiple segments on multiple days. Results must be reported no later than midnight on Sunday. You can upload results after each segment is completed.

You can run on any course you choose. GPS distances and treadmill dashboards are acceptable for distance verifications.

Note that you must be registered and have an assigned bib number to submit results.  Look up your bib number on your registration confirmation email or on the Find A Participant link above after registering.

Registration caps established to keep virtual race results processing manageable.  Caps may be lifted after we gain more experience with Virtual Races.

Social Distancing and Virtual Races

Please practice social distancing and other safe hygiene practices that can also help prevent the spread of germs.

  • Ensure six feet of separation between other runners and walkers at all times.
  • Move safely away from others if you need to cough or sneeze.
  • Don't shake hands.
  • Wash your hands promptly after you run.
  • If you are sick or feeling ill, stay quarantined at home and away from others.

Submit Your Virtual Race Results

You will submit results through RunSignUp. You will receive an email next weekend after you have registered with instructions for submitting your results.

This is an honor system!  Don't be a cheater!

Note that you must be registered and have an assigned bib number to submit results.  Your bib number will be on your confirmation email below the bar code and before the Registration Cart summary.

Look up your individual and group bib numbers using the Find A Participant menu link at the top of the page.

Race Cost

This virtual race is free! But we would welcome any contributions you want to make.

The COVID-19 crisis has created significant hardships and resource constraints in our community. You can make a difference by making a donation to help your community get through this crisis. We are providing two charity partners so you can choose how you want to direct your donation.

A donation to the COVID-19 Response Fund for Forsyth County will support several local community members impacted by the novel coronavirus.

A donation to Twin City Track Club will help offset the significant loss of race timing revenue due to canceled races.

Any amount is helpful. We are grateful for your support.

The Twin City Track Club (TCTC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting running and fitness in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area since 1977.
