This challenge is being held in honor of all the Olympic Athletes who need to wait another year to show the world what they can do. The challenge will begin on August 3 and run up through Labor Day, September 7, 2020. This is a distance challenge for individuals or teams with 5 weeks to complete the total mileage. To make it even more fun, you can earn badges along the way!
There are 3 distances to choose from:
Gold - 339 Miles (# of gold medals in the Olympics)
Silver - 121 Miles (# of days of torch relay)
Bronze - 48 Miles (number of track and field events)
Participate as an Individual or on a team!
The registration and results categories are:
* Individual (339 miles or 121 miles or 43 miles)
* 2-person team (170 miles per person for 339 miles total)
* 3-person team (113 miles per person for 339 miles total)
* 4-person team (85 miles per person for 339 miles total)
We encourage creative team names. You may choose to pick an Olympic sport or a competing country. You get extra credit for choosing team colors!
Note that the Silver and Bronze competitions are for individuals only.
Earn badges as you work toward your distance goal at increments of 20%, 40%, etc. up through 100%. Each badge will be a ring of the Olympic Flag - blue, yellow, black, green, and red. If you achieve the distance challenge goal, you will earn all 5 badges and all 5 Olympic Rings!
To make it more fun, here are some suggested activities to blend into your distance runs. We will add to the list each week. These activities are not required and are not logged anywhere, but we hope you find them entertaining. Be sure to give your self credit for the challenge activities when you post your results on Strava or social media. We'll be looking for you!
Podium Finish: Take a selfie on a podium after you finish (use any elevated object for your podium; a chair will do)
Patriotic Run: Run or walk a mile holding an American Flag
Hurdles: Complete a run or walk while jumping over at least 20 objects
5,000 Meters: Run or walk 5,000 meters on a track
You will submit your mileage and activities online using RunSignUp. You will simply click on RESULTS, then hit the button that says "Submit Virtual Results" and follow the on-screen prompts. You can log miles and activities daily or weekly, whatever you choose. You can also log as many times a day as you need. Results will be posted in order or progress toward the goal in each competition and category.
NEW!!! You can upload your photos to RunSignUp results when you post your results. After submitting your results, the next screen will show an "upload photos" button.
There is no cost to participate and there will be no race swag or awards presented. You will be given the opportunity to make a donation to Twin City Track Club when you register. We are grateful for your generosity.
