We are very grateful for the Palisades Interstates Park Commission to allow us to host our first annual Alpine Marina Triathlon/Duathlon in the most beautiful Palisades Park, on June 18! Many of us in New York Triathlon are from NYC and we just love New Jersey. This is the state you want to be for outdoor adventures. We actually had our first triathlon in the Palisades Park last year in late July. We weren’t sure how well it would be received. In fact, it was a huge success but we didn’t expect to have a large turnout. The turnout was larger than we expected and everybody had a great time. Some loves the late start. The run is a bit challenging since the Henry Hudson Drive, River Road, is a bit hilly.
Both triathlon and duathlon start at 8 am. Our transition, start, and finish area is by the Alpine Marina’s Pavilion comfort station, at the end of the boat docks. The swim begins with the beach run off on the left. Is a .25 miles swim swimming out to the Hudson in an invert L pattern. If the condition is permitted, we may increase the swim distance. Lifeguards and members of the Hudson Kayaks would be there to ensure everyone would have a safe swim.
The bike route for both triathlon and duathlon begins by riding across the Alpine Marina parking lot, on your right, and up to the Henry Hudson Drive. The bike distance is 10 miles, out and back, on the Henry Hudson Drive. Total elevation gain is approximate about 300ft+. On average, it takes about 30 minutes to complete the bike section.
For the run section, the course is, out and back, on the Henry Hudson Drive. The first run for the duathlon is 1.5 miles and the second run is 3 miles. The final run for the triathlon is 3 miles. Same as the bike section, you run across the parking lot and onto the Henry Hudson Drive. Race marshal will be in place to direct you when to turn around.
We are also having a BBQ after the race!
