The Shad Run

Sat May 21 - Sun May 22 Chester, NJ 07930 US

Description

You're invited to join The Nature Conservancy for The Shad Run, a virtual 5K in honor of World Fish Migration Day on May 21, 2022. World Fish Migration Day is a chance to celebrate migratory fish and the connected, healthy rivers they depend on.

The race kicks off on May 21 and runs through May 22. The race is virtual, meaning you can walk, run or hike your way through a 5K from anywhere you like. Then, log your time and get an official TNC Shad Run t-shirt! Share your race day photos on Instagram using #TNCShadRun for a change to be featured on @nature_nj.

The world's free-flowing rivers are disappearing and migratory fish species are going extinct. In the U.S. alone, more than 2 million dams and other barriers block fish from following age-old migrations. It doesn't have to be this way!

Join us for the Shad Run and help us raise awareness about migratory fish and their role in nature's food chain. Together, we can create real change to heal our planet.

The Paulins Kill River

In New Jersey, TNC has working for over a decade to restore the health of the Paulins Kill watershed in the northwestern corner of our state. We
removed the Columbia Dam, opening up 20.6 miles of river and tributaries for migratory fish passage; which resulted in the epic return of American shad upstream from the former dam site for the first time in over a century! Our "symbolic route" goes from the Delaware to the Paulins Kill viaduct in honor of the return of these important migratory fish, the same distance as a 5K!
