Autism Awareness Month Virtual 5k
Description
April is World Autism Awareness Month. This April, to celebrate and support our buddies Matt and Brendan, we are hosting a virtual 5K to raise money for Carousel Connections. Our brother Matt has filled our lives with constant smiles and laughter. We are lucky that Matt has found a community in Carousel Connections, an organization that aims to support individuals with ASD and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities as valued and contributing friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Carousel Connections creates opportunities for individuals to build independence and confidence through various forms of community engagement including volunteer and employment opportunities, and social and recreational experiences.
Matt and Brendan became great friends during their time with Carousel and their shared experience at Nellie’s Schoolhouse as certified dog walkers. The impact that COVID-19 has had on everyday life has been particularly challenging for individuals with special needs to understand and adapt to a new routine and schedule. During this unprecedented time, with the help of their mentors, Nick and Lexi, Matt and Brendan have taken advantage of the skills they have been developing through Carousel Connections and Nellie’s Schoolhouse to start their own dog treat business, Buddy Biscuits. Matt and Brendan work together to bake homemade dog biscuits and sell and distribute them locally.
Anytime during the month of April take a photo of yourself walking/running/getting outside in your Autism Awareness t-shirt and post it on our Facebook page. 100% of proceeds will go directly to Carousel Connections.
