Dash for Dowd 5k

Participate in the #dash4dowd 5k/Fun Run on Saturday, September 8. You may register on the website up until the morning of the race, or register when you arrive (please try to register in advance).

Please review the following update info that was emailed to all who have registered as of Saturday, September 1.

Thank you for signing up for the Dash4Dowd 5k and Fun Run fundraiser!

Please read below for instructions and details regarding the day.

PARKING: We need to start with info on PARKING. Since we have limited space at the high school and middle school, parking will be tight. We are asking all those attending to consider CARPOOLING or getting DROPPED OFF. Once spaces are filled at the high school, you will need to use available spaces at the middle school (Satz) lot. Once both lots are full, or by 11:00 AM, access in and out of the complex will be closed. We anticipate that most/all runners will be done close to 1:00 PM (after the 11:30 AM start). Cars will not be permitted to exit the complex until that time. Please follow the police and volunteers’ directions when entering and exiting.

REGISTRATION: We will be set up to accept registrants on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM on the path leading to the track, near the concession stand. We will get you signed in and give you your bib, your timing chip, and your t-shirt. Please plan on arriving no later than 10:30 so we can get you signed in. At 11:00 AM  we will hold the opening ceremony and introduce the guest speaker from Johns Hopkins before the start of the race at 11:30.

REFRESHMENTS: There will be refreshments (water, Gatorade) on sale as well as snacks (bananas, oranges, cereal and protein bars, some sweet treats) so please bring a few dollars with you (small bills are appreciated). The proceeds from the snack stand will be donated to the Holmdel First Aid Squad whose support and encouragement made this event a reality.

VENDORS: There will be some vendors on site (Runners High and others) as well as an informational table by Johns Hopkins where you may get more details on ARVD and other cardiac conditions that affect our children and friends.

WEATHER: The event is, in our hopes, rain or shine. As of this writing, there is a chance of rain, but we will only delay in the event of thunderstorms, as it would be too difficult to reschedule or postpone. We will keep you posted via email and the website as the weather picture for Saturday takes shape.

THE COURSE: The Kid’s Fun Run will be for our younger runners and will be three times around the track. There will be trophies for first, second, and third place.

The 5k race will start on the track, go (almost) once around, runners will exit up and behind the bleachers through the gate, pass behind the concession stand, exit the field through the main gate, proceed counterclockwise around both the high school and Satz complex four times, return to field behind the concession and bleachers, back onto to the track and to the finish line. The map was emailed to all registrants.
