Description
Join us to support St. John the Apostle Scout Troop 330 for our very first Virtual Frigid Frosty 5k! As many of you may know, February is an important month in scouting as we celebrate the anniversary of the founder of the scouting movement, Robert Baden-Powell, who was born on February 22, 1857. In addition, 2021 marks a very special year for our troop as we are celebrating our 70th anniversary!
We are hosting a Virtual 5k and asking for your support. But what is a Virtual 5k? Here is the best part: it is whatever you want it to be! We ask that upon registering you set your own personal goal. Will you run, bike or walk a 5k in your neighborhood? Will you hike a 5k to remember your fondest memories in scouting? Will you commit to community service for 70 minutes (in honor of our 70th anniversary) or will you stay warm on the couch? The choice is entirely up to you!
All proceeds of this event will benefit our troop, assisting with the purchase of much needed equipment and supplies, as well as to defray the costs of our upcoming treks to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico (Summer of 2021 & Summer 2022), and summer camp at Camp Rodney in the Chesapeake Bay this upcoming summer.
As fellow scouter and parent of four scouts explained, Tommy Lee Hayes-Brown (Scout Leader Troop/Pack 63)from Charlotte, North Carolina, "Scouting gives our kids the advantage of life preparation through values. Service through leadership. Community through volunteering. Faith through reverence. Mutual respect through diversity."
Despite the pandemic and all of the challenges we have faced, we are committed to continuing a quality scouting program and all it has to offer for our scouts, and we need your help to ensure it can continue on at St. John's for another 70 years!
