Description

Harold M. Schumacher epitomized the spirit of Rotary International’s motto of “Service Above Self”. As a founding member of the Rotary Club of Little Falls on October 26,1946, he maintained weekly perfect meeting attendance for over 51 years until his passing in 1998. Harold served as Club president from 1950-1951 and remained active throughout the Little Falls community. Through his years of leadership, the Rotary Club championed many causes, charities and projects that benefited the local and international communities. Harold was on the Board that was responsible for the creation of Passaic Valley Regional High School in 1940. He was mayor of the Township of Little Falls for multiple years in the 1950’s, served as police commissioner, and helped guide the sewer construction project throughout Little Falls that improved everyone’s quality of life.

In 1932 Harold created what is now one of the oldest Chevrolet dealerships in the nation. Through his leadership, he was able to develop it into one of the premier Chevy “small town” franchises. The Schumacher family continues to maintain close ties to the Passaic Valley community and continues Harold’s tradition of generosity and leadership.

The Rotary Club of Passaic Valley/Little Falls is pleased to honor Harold M. Schumacher through this great day of friendly competition and Rotary charities fund raising.

Introduction: The Passaic Valley River 5K Run/Walk will be held for the 12th time on November 30, 2014. The event is well supported and has assisted the Passaic Valley Rotary Club by funding its programs since inception. The event continued to evolve most recently adding chip timing last November. This Passaic Valley (Little Falls – Totowa – Woodland Park) Rotary River Run/Walk continues to create awareness and raise the necessary funds to support the Rotary’s Programs and its mission of Service Above Self. Come show your support for the Passaic Valley Rotary Club and the community through running or walking this 5K on November 30th.

USATF Certified 5K Course: Come run, jog or walk this relatively flat (one hill) road course which traverses through the Passaic Valley communities of Little Falls, Totowa & Woodland Park. The 5K course has been certified by the USATF for accuracy. Please see the following link for addition course details.

Benefactors: The Harold M. Schumacher 5K will assist in raising the necessary funds needed for both the community and international Rotary charities. Rotary International has been servicing the community for over 100 years. It is made up of business men and women within your communities. Rotary International is the driving force behind nearly obliterating Polio worldwide. The Passaic Valley “PV” Rotary directly sponsors the “Gift of Life” program which flies in young children from third world countries for life saving heart operations. The PV Rotary not only supports and funds the above programs, but also supports a number of local service activities and charities near and dear to our hearts. We fully support the renovation of Camp Hope, a Passaic County camp in West Milford that offers summer camp activities for our children while providing senior citizen activities during the off season. Just around the corner, PV Rotary Club sponsors a barbeque picnic for the residents of the North Jersey Developmental Center annually. The club has supplied AED’s (defibrillators) for local churches and community centers. Passaic Valley students are awarded college scholarships while gaining invitation to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award conference. Our Club is a “hands-on” organization where 100% of all funds raised go directly out to our service projects and the charities we support.

Timing & Scoring: Timing provided by Tristate Timing. IPICO Chips will be used to score the event in 10 year age groups. Please see www.tristatetiming.com or the IPICO Youtube page for additional details.
