Description
Our son, Owen Patrick Hill, was born with a severe brachial plexus injury (BPI) that affected the function of his left upper extremity. Luckily, Owen was seen by Dr. Apurva Shah and Meagan Pehnke, OT of the CHOP Brachial Plexus Injury Program within a week of birth which started his journey to recovery. He had nerve transfer and nerve graft surgery at the end of August 2018 when he was 3 months old. He has also been going to Occupational and Physical Therapy. He has now made a ton of progress and has regained a lot of shoulder and bicep function!
In honor of Owen and to support further research by the team at CHOP regarding brachial plexus injuries, surgery and therapy, we have set up a virtual 5k run/ 1 mile walk event. All of the proceeds from this event will be donated towards a foundation established to support BPI research.
Our family will complete the 5k run/ 1 mile walk on October 17, 2020 which is the start of BPI Awareness Week. Please join us between now and then and do a 1 mile walk or run a 5k and send us your photos! We were hoping to make this a big event this year, but COVID-19 has changed our plans. We hope COVID-19 will be gone next year so we can all be together October 2021.
Thank you in advance for your support!
