Description

Our annual 5K Run/Walk is in person this year at Cooper River Park, but thought we would keep the virtual option for all of you that cannot make it in person!   The virtual option is “Move a Mile”. You can Run, Walk, Bike, Swim, Skateboard, Bounce on a Pogo Stick, Run on a Tread Mill... The style of movement is completely up to you as long as you move for a mile.  Have fun and be creative!

Since there are a number of options to choose from, we thought we’d offer a little breakdown. The “5k” Run and Walk options will take place in person on Saturday, October 8th at Cooper River Park.  Registration opens at 8:00 am and the race is scheduled to kick off at about 9:00 am.  The “1 Mile Virtual” options are the Move a Mile options and can be completed any time after you register.  If participating virtually, be sure to send us your photos and/or videos of your Move a Mile, so we can post them on Saturday, October 8, 2022 on the Walk the Talk Event Facebook Page.  No matter which option you select, we encourage you to invite your friends, family, and coworkers to participate with you!  Be sure to register early in order to get your t-shirt in time for the event.

Mental health services are more important than ever.  For over 40 years, Genesis Counseling Centers, a nonprofit treatment center, has provided mental health and addiction related services for thousands of individuals in South Jersey. We care about people’s problems in the everyday world. We believe in the possibility of growth and transformation for every individual. It is our mission to provide the therapeutic support, care and education to aid people in reaching their goals while they manage the symptoms of mental illness or strive to overcome the destructive effects of chemical addiction. Learning to maintain recovery is vital. We don't want anyone to travel down this difficult road alone, so we invite you to be an important part of the Run for Recovery by sponsoring, donating, or participating in our Walk the Talk (in person or virtually!)Mental health services are more important than ever.  For over 40 plus years Genesis Centers, a nonprofit treatment center, has provided mental health and addiction related services for thousands of individuals in South Jersey. Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Are we having a 5k this year?
A.  Yes!  We will have an in person 5K Run/Walk at Cooper River Park on October 8, 2022.  We also decided to keep our virtual "Move a Mile" option for those that live too far to participate in person.

Q.  What does Move a Mile mean?
A.  Instead of running or walking a 5k, we’re encouraging people to get out there and move a mile.  How you move is up to you!  Be creative!  You can run, walk, bike, skate, rollerblade, hike, climb… it’s your choice.  Have fun, be safe, and be creative!

Q.  How do I register for this year’s Walk the Talk, Move a Mile event?
A.  You can register online on our RunSignUp page:  https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/YourTown/walkthetalk

Q.  When do we Move a Mile?
A.  Once you register on the RunSignUp page, you can complete your Move a Mile at any time!  You can Move a Mile right away, you can wait for your t-shirt, or you can Move a Mile on October 8th, the day of our Virtual Event!  We encourage you to take pictures or videos of your Move a Mile to be shared on our Facebook Event Page.  You can post directly to the Facebook Event Page or send your photos or video to our email address and we will post them on October 8th:  walkthetalk5k@comcast.net

Photo file sizes need to be under 10 MB.  You can send .jpeg, .png, .tiff, .heic, or whatever the native iPhone photo format is.  Include the words “In Memory of” in the email subject line and be sure to include your loved one’s name.

Q.  What organization benefits from the “Walk the Talk” Christopher Schultes 5K Run/Walk and Move a Mile for Recovery event?
A.  The event is being held for Genesis Counseling Centers.  Genesis is a non-profit counseling center that provides a variety of substance abuse and mental health services to the communities of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties.  For more information on Genesis Counseling Centers, please visit our website at:  https://www.genesiscenters.org

Q. I registered for the Move a Mile, can I still come to the event at Cooper River Park?
A. Yes!  We’re happy to have you.  While we won’t have a specific course set up, Cooper River Park covers over 346 acres, so there’s plenty of space to Move a Mile.  Plus, you can enjoy the music, try to win some raffle prizes, and cheer on the 5K participants.

Q. What if I preregistered for one of the 5k events, but I’m unable to make it on October 8th?
A.  If you’re unable to make it on the 8th, you can participate virtually.  You can find and download an app on your smartphone to track your own 5k course, or you can just Move a Mile.  The choice is yours!
