Description
This June, join FCHS as we work to build healthy, active communities with our first annual Feed A Family 5K and Wellness Walk. Your registration will support FCHS and Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) programming.
It's easy. Register today and run/walk throughout the month of June. Register yourself or form a team to fundraise together for this worthy cause. We'll give you a tally at race end, so you can report your success.
Our event has 2 options:
- 5K Fundraiser: Register for our race. Run/walk it in one day, or count your miles over several days during the month of June until you reach 3.1 miles to complete a 5K. All participants receive a race t-shirt.
- 1-Mile Wellness Walk Fundraiser: Still want to participate but for a shorter distance? Register for our walk. Walk a mile in June and support our project this way. All participants receive a race t-shirt.
Why We're Fundraising:
Rutgers Cooperative Extension's Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) is partnering with Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) to raise funds that will stock local food pantries with healthy, nutritious foods and help families learn easy, tasty ways to use that food. We will teach families with limited food budgets how to shop for and cook healthy meals through virtual nutrition/cooking lessons, using the “Cooking Matters” program. Each of our lessons is taught by a team of FCHS educators with expertise in cooking and nutrition. Lessons cover meal preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting, and nutrition.
For more than 100 years, FCHS (the nutrition and wellness component of Rutgers Cooperative Extension) has promoted health and wellness through education, research and collaboration with outreach in healthy eating, physical activity, and chronic disease prevention. Since its inception in 2008, Rutgers Against Hunger has provided 225,000 pounds of food and raised approximately $250,000 for food banks and pantries statewide.
Help us Help More of New Jersey's Families:
Go solo or gather a group together to run/walk and complete our 5K or 1-mile challenge in June. Complete your run or walk at your convenience, in any pedestrian-safe neighborhood, park, or community fitness trail. Log your miles in one day or track your progress for the month and report in when you finish. To turn up the competition, we are pinning county against county. The more registrations your New Jersey county has, the more funding and program support your county will receive in return. Support your local community by supporting this event, and feel great while you're doing it.
