Due to the rapidly developing situation of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Star of Hope Half Marathon/5K. After much discussion with our race committee, township officials and Governor Murphy’s recommendation of cancelling events with more than 250 participants, we feel like this is the right call to ensure the health and safety of all of our runners, volunteers and spectators.
As a health and human services organization, we absolutely need to put public safety as the number one priority. I personally know what it’s like to see a loved one suffer through an illness. It is terrifying and you feel helpless. We couldn’t risk the potential of having a hand in possibly getting others sick.
We are sad for you. You have been training for months for these spring races. You have gone out and fundraised and made sacrifices to run for the kids who can’t. Believe that it is not all in vain. Even if we won’t be able to be together to celebrate in April, you can still make a difference.
The deadline to chose an option has expired (April 5th, 2020) . Please understand that we have incurred many expenses with regards to this event, that we will not be able to recoup. These expenses will take away from our ultimate goal of changing the lives of kids with brain tumors. With your support, we can continue to do what we do and serve these vulnerable kids.
This is a difficult and unprecedented situation. However, kids don’t stop getting cancer. The research can’t stop, either. Pediatric cancer is already severely underfunded. We have made so much progress in the last few years, with new treatments available, that are making a big difference. More kids are surviving. We can’t afford to take steps backwards in treating kids with cancer. That would be truly devastating. Thank you, for choosing to run with us, from the bottom of our hearts. Thea’s Star of Hope was founded in 2011 with a mission to bring hope to kids with brain tumors by funding research to Improve treatments and provide support for families of kids with brain tumors so that they can live and not just survive. Two thirds of kids with cancer suffer life-long effects from the treatments used to save their lives. Organ damage, endocrine issues, neurological and cognitive impairment are just a few common “late effects.” Surgery, radiation and chemotheraphy–current standards of care–must be improved upon if this is to change.
Thea’s Star of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. We are a Guidestar Silver-rated volunteer organization that directs more than eighty percent of our funds toward pediatric brain tumor programs and research.

Get ready for the 2nd annual STOH half marathon and STOH 5k (new) located in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey.
The half marathon is a USATF certified course. The 5k is not certified.

5K RACE FEES:
$25 online, $30 walk-up at packet pickup or race morning.

The half marathon event will be a USATF Certified 13.1 mile course, mostly flat along country roads. The course will not be closed to traffic but this is a rural area. Police and certified flagmen will be at all road intersections. Road course support will "officially" end at approximately 10:45-11:00 AM. However, don't worry, as this is not a hard cut-off time. The timing worked out great for the first year in 2019. Our run angel volunteers will stay with the last few people for support and encouragement! And the finish line archway will not come down until everyone has crossed it.
Runners/Joggers should aim to maintain a minimum average pace to finish in about 3 hours.
We are no longer offering the relay option however there will be a 5k race that starts that the same time as the half marathon. The course for the 5k is not certified, meaning it was not officially measured by a USATF official. It will be an out and back course going out approximately 1.55 miles and making a U-turn on Sharon Road back to the start/finish corral.
The race is being timed and scored by Compuscore

EVENT CANCELATION POLICY:
There is NO rain date. The race will be held Rain / Snow or Shine.
In case of inclement weather, the organization reserves the right to cancel/alter/modify the race/course for safety concerns. In any case, there will be No Refunds of race entry fees nor is there guarantee of any complementary race entry to a future race. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid. Monies collected are used to provide support to our charity, as well as to develop and produce the event. We pledge to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exciting event for all. Any decision made to cancel or modify the race is based on the overall event and participant safety.
We have enlisted the help of pace group leaders from Beast Pacing.
We anticipate having at 2 pacers/time slot maintaining the following paces: 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45, and 3:00.
Beast Pacing provides pacers for events across the United States and abroad. BP pacers are professional, but have FUN while helping other runners reach their goals. Whether it is a Boston Qualifying Time you are looking for, a P.R., or just someone to run with, we are there to help! BP pacers are chosen for their ability to successfully lead a group while keeping them motivated all the way to the finish. Pacers are assigned to Half Marathon times 10 minutes slower than they typically run and are required to finish the race within 1 minute of goal time, but never over.
We will offer Honey Stinger Mango Orange Gels at 3 of our aid-stations. Near miles 3, 7 and 10.
