Sunday, October 21, 2018 is the 7th Annual Rutherford PBA Halloween Foot Pursuit, a 5K Run/1 mi. walk through scenic Rutherford streets. Proceeds from this event will benefit Rutherford PBA Local #300 and The Friends of the Rutherford Public Library.
The Rutherford PBA Local #300 in the past has sponsored Little League baseball teams, Babe-Ruth teams, Safe-Night Out, Jr. Police Academy, Senior Scholarships, bicycle awareness for children, NJ Special Olympics Torch Run, as well as greatly supporting other charitable organizations. We also support fellow officers and families that are sick or have fallen on hard times.
The Friends of the Library of Rutherford has provided key funding for a range of programs and services for over 50 years. Over the course of 2017, the community has fully settled into the newly remodeled Rutherford Public Library space, and maximized use of it. Annually, the Library hosts more than 160,000 visitors. More than 35,000 of them make use of the Library’s Internet connectivity, with 20,000 using the Library’s computer workstations to access the web. The Library mainstay continues to be loaning materials–more than 150,000 each year. It is also a major destination for free educational and opportunities. In 2017 the Library has offered 675 public programs for adults and children, attended by 18,250. The Friends of the Library support all special programs to children. They also provide critical financial support for program supplies. In addition, the Friends also provide major support for the popular Museum Pass Program. Residents’ use of this service saves them just over $31,000 yearly.
