Description

The "Frozen Fest for EMS 4 Miler" is a Virtual Race to benefit the all-volunteer South Orange Rescue Squad in South Orange New Jersey.

About the race:  This virtual race is a 4-mile event.  Participants may run, walk, or crawl the 4-mile distance any time between December 1 and December 20 at a location and time of their choosing.  While we recommend you run your four-mile race in South Orange, you may complete your four miles anywhere!  It's going to be cold in December, everything is more fun when it is a festival, and the race fully benefits the volunteer EMS squad in South Orange, hence the "Frozen Fest for EMS 4 Miler" name!  All participants who upload times get entered into a raffle for amazing prizes from generous local businesses including:  Sneaker Factory of Florham Park, Buff Fitness of Maplewood, the New Jersey Jackals Baseball Club, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, Gu, Hammer Nutrition, Jump Bag Training, and Starbucks!   All registration fees and donations go to support Rescue Squad operations and supplies in our fight against COVID19!

About the South Orange Rescue Squad:   Formed in 1952, the South Orange Rescue Squad provides free 911 emergency ambulance service to the residents and businesses in South Orange.  The squad also frequently responds to Maplewood, Orange, and Newark.   All EMTs on the South Orange Rescue Squad are volunteers and no one gets paid for their services. The squad does not bill for services and no tax dollars go towards the squad.  The squad is fully funded by the generous donations of the residents and businesses in South Orange and Maplewood.   Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, the squad has spent more than its usual budget on protective equipment, medical equipment, cleaning materials, and more.  The squad needs your help to continue providing its life-saving services for free!  The South Orange Rescue Squad is registered as a non-profit organization and all donations are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Optional Race Course

For those of you in the South Orange/Maplewood area looking for a suggested route, this course was created by Katy Walmsly from the MAPSO Tri Group!  The course begins and ends in front of the Rescue Squad Station (right across from the South Orange Train Station).  Here's hoping you don't need medical assistance, but we are there if you need us!

Reminder:  If you run/walk outside in South Orange, Village protocols dictate that you must wear a mask while you do so.  May we recommend a buff mask from our race store?
