Hello Taco Trot Friends,

For the past 3 years, we have hosted the North New Jersey Taco Trot 5K with the help of our friends and partners Riviera Maya Mexican Restaurants. This year, due to COVID-19, our race season has been shaken and race directors across the world are scrambling to determine how to put on the production of running and recreation events, us included.

With the current restrictions on hosting mass gatherings and the uncertainty of this current global pandemic, we will not be hosting an in person race and will be transitioning to a virtual race. We have not taken this lightly and have consulted with our vendors, local government officials, the Roxbury Health Department, and Recreation Department to aide us in making the decision. Ultimately, the decision was ours.

We will be announcing the packet pick up for the Taco Trot 5K in the next coming weeks. During Packet Pick Up, you will be able to pick up your shirt, medal, and bib in order to run virtually.  All runs will be completed virtually and results will be uploaded. There will be no in person run.

What is a Virtual 5K?

A virtual 5K means you run 3.1 miles on our own time, your own course. Use hashtag #tacotrot5k on social media. You submit results to us and we formulate a list. There are unofficial age group winners, but it’s mostly a virtual “challenge”.

Do I need a special watch to track my mileage?

Absolutely not. We use a free app called “Strava” for tracking mileage. Some other runners prefer apps such as “Runkeeper” or “Mapmyrun”. All these apps track distance, time, and pace. They are user friendly, and easy to use. You can even upload pictures to memorialize your run.

What if I do not want to run virtually? Can I just get my money back?

I know that these are crazy times and nothing in our planning could have prepared us for this Global Pandemic. We have a great deal of sunk costs with the event production. We are offering a deferral to any one of our remaining races in 2020 or 2021 as an option. We are trying our best to offer flexibility during this time but cannot accommodate refunds.

How can I confirm that I have registered?

Look for your name here. If you cannot find it, please email us directly:
