Description
The 5K Run for Everyone supports special needs programs at the Westfield Area YMCA. Initial proceeds of the run established the Dragonfly Program which offers physical, recreational and social programs for young adults with special needs for free or at minimal cost and enabled the Y to hire a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to oversee these programs and develop new ones.
Last year’s proceeds helped expand Dragonfly by offering a class for teens and supporting the Y’s summer Inclusion Camp program for children with special needs entering grades K-6.
This year’s proceeds will continue to support Dragonfly and Inclusion Camp while helping launch a new program for young adults with special needs that works toward independence by developing basic life skills such as personal care, safety, housekeeping and interacting in the community.
The 5K Run for Everyone is a USATF sanctioned event and certified course: clocks at each mile; water stops; rolling, flat, and hilled roads. Course map. The start/finish line is at the Westfield Area YMCA Main Facility, located at 220 Clark Street, Westfield.
