Relay Sprint Triathlon
Event Description
NMSU Sprint Triathlon Race will be Saturday, October 24th at 8 am. Due to scheduling conflicts with the NMSU Swim Team, the triathlon has been delayed 1 week from Saturday October 17th to Saturday October 24th.
NMSU will be hosting a sprint triathlon event this fall after a hiatus of more than ten years. This triathlon will be in run, bike, swim order and will start at the Aquatic Center parking lot (reverse triathlon). Register now!
The sprint triathlon distances for this race will be a 5 kilometer run (3.1 miles), a 20 kilometer bike (12.4 miles), and a 400 meter (0.25 mile) swim. The run will be two laps around the fields behind the activity center and Sutherland Village, the bike will be four laps going around NMSU campus from the Aggie Memorial Stadium to the DACC. The swim will be a traditional snake swim in NMSU’s outdoor pool. The transition area is located in the NMSU Satellite Water Facility Parking lot, west of the Aquatic Center. We will be offering relay options for this race! Grab two friends and split up the triathlon disciplines, with each of you tackling a portion of the race.
Awards
The top three individual male and female athletes will receive a race shot glass with the logo and their place! The top three relay teams will also receive custom shot glasses!
Finisher medals and race T-shirts will be given to all participants. Age group awards for the top 3 in every USAT age category may be given out depending on the number of registrations for the event. Awards will also be given to the top three participants in the Clydesdale and Athena weight categories (men weighing a minimum of 220 lbs, and women weighing a minimum of 165 lbs).

Interested in the Relay Triathlon?
Are you a former athlete in cross country, track, swimming, or cycling and want to race but don't want to do the full triathlon?
Our relay triathlon is a great opportunity to team up with 1 or 2 friends to complete the sprint triathlon distance! Participants will complete one discipline of the race and hand off their chip to the next member of the team in the transition area. All you need is a team captain to register your team in the relay registration process, and your other team members will be able to register for free!

Not sure about the swim?
The swim distance for this triathlon is 400 yards in the outdoor pool (16x 25 yd lengths). Due to pool logistics, the course will be in short course variation, which means that you only have to swim 25 yd lengths to get to the other side of the pool, instead of the 50 meter lengths traditional to pool triathlon swims.
